Mosconi Cup 2024, Nov. 30-Dec. 3, Orlando

Zero problem if they are working toward citizenship. We all came from different lands originally. Patsura has been living here awhile, I understand, and like Gorst has embraced Americana.
I don't take much issue with it either, but it is kind of a sad statement that the USA can't produce young players that are capable of competing at the MC level. I don't exactly agree with him, but Corey Deuel has been voicing significant opposition on facebook to having Gorst and potentially other foreign born players on the team. Even Gorst hasn't helped us much- perhaps he is playing down to the level of his teammates.

"working toward citizenship". What a joke. How about waiting until the actually become one? Gorst probably played loke a dog on purpose. I don`t think we should allow Russians in this country. I don`t trust them as far as I can throw a tank. Think spook.

Yeah, Gorst is a spy. Giving away all our Mosconi secrets.

You know, the name Mosconi also sounds suspiciously Russian. Almost sounds like ... Moscow.

Maybe we should also change the tournament's name. Willie Mosconi could have even been a Stalinist Sleeper put in place to end the long dominance of the U.S. in billiards. Best we banish his name from memory too.

Not sure even Robert Ludlum could have dreamed up this plot!

We dont have a single player other than Styer that can compete in MC

Mickey’s bridge hand was precociously close over top of the 9-ball so the ref had to watch for that too. I think Mickey just beat him to the call because of that. The result was too blatant that I give him benefit of the doubt that he would ga e called it.
I called it before he shot it, it was damn near guaranteed to double hit. It would have been surprising if he didn't foul

Why is the Mosconi Cup the USA (a country) vs Europe (a continent). Pool is more popular in Europe than the US. Why isn't it country vs country? Thoughts........
Srsly?
The Mosconi Cup is modeled after the Ryder Cup-

FYI: there’s 44 countries in Europe and 50 states in America.
So, you’re saying in all 50 states, we don’t have enough strong players, but out of 44 countries (view them as states which comprise the European Union) there are more strong players?

Was finally able to watch Day 4 last night. Disappointing, but not really surprising.
Europe is Europe and the crowd getting into it with Jayson just makes him stronger. He thrives on that. FSR is still excellent in crunch time, Alcaide is the consistent tactician, Kaci has been really impressive especially considering his gruesome injury. I'm really happy for Mickey. He played well (as he has been all year), but i think he would have been better without Jayson in his ear. Let the Viking pillage! (That fluke into the side is the funniest shot I've seen since Alcaide's 7-ball last year)

The Americans... ugh...
Styer was the highlight. Rock solid and made very few glaring mistakes.
Sky took some unnecessary risks and got a couple bad rolls, overall didn't play terribly.
SVB and Fedor i think suffer from the short format. Not necessarily the races themselves, but they need to STAY at the table to get going. I'm still trying to figure out why none of them played back to back matches. These 2 are marathoners, get em warmed up and they'll be themselves.
Billy was...Billy. He played better than I feared, but i don't think the "energy pick" was the right move. For anyone that was actually there: Was Billy the one yelling in the stands all of Day 4? Could hear clearly on the stream, but never showed who it was.

I think the most glaring problem on the American side was shot selection. There were a few real head scratchers: Styer trying to draw back from that hanger 3, Fedor attempting that 6-7 combo, Sky's bank attempt. In the short race there's a time to be aggressive and a time to play the safe and live to fight another inning. I also think Fedor needs to be more careful with the pogo stick. He's probably the best in the world in the air, but balls just weren't going. There were a few opportunities to play the kick and he leaned on his jumping ability and left an opening.

Overall excellent to watch. The crowd was rowdy as intended, the table looked *tough*, and there were some absolutely incredible shots made.

Nobody was arguing that the laws of physics suspend themselves at inopportune times for certain players.

This is just a semantics game BeiberLvr is playing here. While he's right that too many annually blame the MC outcome on rolls or the short races, he's wrong to surmise that "rolls" -- however we choose to define them -- don't exist or don't affect the outcome of matches. They do quite often.

I actually think that rolls can be quantified and would be a worthy state to keep track of during matches. The players themselves clearly understand when they get a roll as it's unfortunately standard practice to hand wave at your opponent every time you get one.

…..and a player who is looking for good rolls will do better than than one who is guarding against bad rolls.

I’m wondering where your ancestors came from.

Well, the EU population would be over 600m (without Russia) vs the US at 335m. So it shouldn't be overly surprising that given a fairly significant population advantage they would statistically be more likely to be able to field a strong team minus all other factors.

Sky played good. I don't recall him missing a ball. He had a couple questionable decisions but he HAS to play perfect. I think he played pretty much how any of the Euro's except for Shaw would have played if the score was reversed.
I think Sky's short comings were decisions and safety play. There was also the cueing foul he committed, maybe all ball fouls should be more of a thing in the US. I keep thinking that there was a second cueing foul in the MC but I cant recall if it was just Sky or if the other was in the MC or a tournament I watched just before. The USA also needs to work on the cut break, it just cant come down to bad rolls and good rolls, it seems that EU had a look at the next ball the majority of the time and the USA was typically hooked on the ball after the break. There was also the bad position shot on the 7 that Sky left Fedor in the doubles match, that was huge. Wasn't that the difference between being tied up or down by 2 after day 2?

Oh I know. He now has access to deep secrets about Viking and Triple Sixty products. Russia can reverse engineer them and get an advantage over us in jump cues. I can’t stand the idea of a jump cue gap. And talk about deep cover. Nobody expects a pool player to be a spy so all the three letter agency types will let him in sensitive facilities and get all the secrets. He might even see the Big Board.
