just replied here as this post was so important to put up again.
As an IT guy, let me say that if Seybert's is monitoring it's click-thru rate properly, it does not do any good to just "click" on ads, if you don't buy anything. Any online retailer worth it's salt is making it's advertising decisions based on how much actual 'revenue" the partner site creates.
I think it is possible Seybert's has come to recognize what is basically a universal truth: People hate clicking on ads and rolling the dice so much, they start to "ignore" the ads subconsciously.. So much so that prolly 75% of the forum members, if they needed some billiard supplies, would not even realize there has been an ad here to click on,,
Now... An affiliate code for a specific site, that is heavily promoted here? That's a whole different thing. Seybert's doesn't need to pay anything for advertising, and it becomes AZBilliard's responsibility to drive traffic towards Seybert's, to get the affiliate percentage.
Paid advertising here would work if billiards was more popular.. And drove more traffic. There's always ways to make easy money iof a site gets 10 million unique visitors per year... But for something as narrow as pool/billiards, a site like AZBilliards needs to be more creative with driving traffic towards retailers.
Some more food for thought:
If a particular subforum is so poorly administrated that it gets a reputation amongst fans as a place to stay away from (which AZB NPR forum most certainly has..), then that reputation can result in tarnishing the entire site in that particular person's eyes...
"NPR is a wild west gun fight where people are allowed to be extremely rude and express some pretty nasty viewpoints, so long as they couch their words just so..."), can easily turn into "I stay off AZB, because everyone is a******s to each other." It is simply how human nature works.
The goal is to attract new young players to the game. And a lot of young people are simply not gonna wanna be around many of the viewpoints expressed freely in NPR. So........ Old white guys tend to rule the roost on AZB. Some of which are borderline racist, and you know it. And you admins don't do anything about it.
I have come to acknowledge that unfortunate reality.
So my thoughts are that NPR should be left alone as is. It’s relatively contained. Once in a while a toxic gas bubble makes its way from NPR to the Main Forum and it smells like sh*t in here for a little bit. If you nuke NPR those guys ain’t going away. It will carbonate the rest of AZB with toxic gas bubbles. Well all be sipping sh*t champagne.
Look at how much nicer it is around here now that aiming has its own forum. Forget about the merits of any argument. Just the fighting not being here makes a vast improvement.
And really, it’s not just AZB. Every corner of the internet has extremes in it by now. Everyone has to fade the crazies unfortunately. I think AZB does a good job with this issue all said and done.

That you never miss an opportunity to openly bad mouth the staff, is yet another rule violation that I apparently let slide, and quite frankly, one too many times. You are one, very replaceable cog in the machine. NPR is managed within the general rules that Mike has outlined. If you have a problem with it, I would strongly suggest that you take it up with him...privately.

But the fact very much remains... The vast majority of active members in NPR ARE old.. And white. And express many of the same views that tend to go with that combination. Comfort with casual racism, etc.
That is an opinion. I can tell you that I have personally, permanently banned members for making overtly racist statements towards another member/s. The staff operates within the basic framework of the rules. I can also tell you with certainty, that far more right leaning members have been hit with the ban hammer, than left.
Ultimately, the goal isn't playing whackamole with the ban hammer. That being said, sometimes you just can't save them from themselves.

In order for Seyberts to leave a Billiards Forum as big as AZ Billiards is, there has to be a valid reason in their minds. Usually things boil down to money, it's what makes the world go around. Maybe they think that the money they put out isn't helping the money coming in. I live in Michigan and have been out to Seyberts a few times, and it isn't a great big store, but it does provide a lot of billiards related products with a down to earth staff. I forget his name, but one of the guys showed me around their workshop where they do repairs and rewrap cues, and it's sort of neat seeing ground zero.
When it comes to online retailers and tracking click-throughs... There really is no "Maybe they think" to it. Any online retailer providing links for advertising dollars, can measure exactly how many sales that particular advertising link provides. They can measure how long the person following the link stayed on their site. They can track which products the users following a particular link viewed. They can track whether the user put that product into their cart, and then backed out of the transaction.
Modern day ad and affiliate tracking is quite sophisticated, and there are companies out there that will sell you a fully ready to go package that makes it extremely simple to figure out whether the company is getting bang for it's buck by advertising with a specific site/forum.
Meh liberals like short bus call everyone racist, sexist , homophobic or whatever other name they come up with as soon as someone doesn’t fall inline with their line of thought. You learn to ignore it. The country is tired of it and that’s part of the reason you got the results in the last election you did. That being said all those arguments seem to stay in that section and rarely leak over here so obviously the forum has done a good job of containing it.
