Traveling with your cue

You can also mail cue to destination.
I had a friend mail his cues to the hotel he was staying at for APA Vegas, cues arrived one day early, and were signed for by the hotel.

He arrived the next day and asked for his package which the hotel could not locate. After two days of looking the hotel told him something must have happened they were terribly sorry and offered him Bonvoy points to apologize.

He explained that he expected them to cover the cost of replacement which was roughly around 5K and the hotel said yeah that's not going to happen the T&C's you agreed to state that we're not responsible for lost luggage or packages you send to us and that he should probably file on his homeowner's insurance and that was the end of the matter.

So he filed a police report there in Vegas and the responding officer said yeah this happens daily....

Check a bag, spin the wheel. Mail the bag, spin the wheel....

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

The top pros are traveling most every week to tournaments. I doubt they are mailing their cues. How do they do it? While I'm sure it has happened, you just don't hear much talk about losing their cues, in fact, I always see them with their normal pool cases propped up next to them on the streams. They travel all the time and do it with their normal pool cases, so how do they check them in on a plane? I don't think this is such a big deal as some make it out to be.

Humans...the weak link of all processes!

I have always been able to do it to a work location, to be honest and would definitely consider delivery to a UPS store or something like that.

Definitely a lot of humans around the hotel.

There have definitely been tales of lost cues, on the AZB and off. One piece and two piece cues included.

I'm sure it is a statistically low occurrence...so is a lotta shitty shit and when shit happens to you, those numbers become irrelevant.

And we be talking about all things cue-sports!

Yes, I would never ship my pool cues or golf clubs like this for play. I get nervous enough when I have to ship my cues for new wraps / shaft turndowns. Unfortunately, local Seattle lathe tip guy does not do leather wraps and no other options really except out of state...

secret is to not have expensive looking luggage. and tie some colorful ribbons or something on them to make it stand out some and be identifiable when on the carousel.

this way it is much less likely some thief will grab it as he is afraid the owner will see him taking it easily, so he takes someone else's bag.

ive had twice where in the past a person was grabbing my bag before i caught him. then i thought about the ribbons.
older beat up bags get less attention as well.
When I used to go on golf trips via airlines, I would wrap the golf club travel bag handle with pink duct tape. Sure made it easy to spot in luggage carousels.

I have a few harbor freight pelican knock off gun cases. Mostly for taking rifles to the range. But will work with cue cases. 1/3 the price and cheaper with coupons.

A duffle bag with your clothes/case inside is the best solution in my opinion. I bought one from osprey and have used it each of the past 8 years I’ve gone to Vegas. I’ve never had any issues.

I was heading to a tournament post 911 and had to check in my cue and case. As I sat in my seat watching the luggage getting placed in the airplane hold, I watched the loader throw my case into the hold. So when I got home, my wife found me a 30" luggage case which will hold my cues diagonally. It works perfectly and cushions the rough handling of luggage.
