I love 9-ball but...

9 ball is not too easy, not even for the 820+ player's of the world. If it were, we'd have players running out the whole tournament from the first match.

Its a great mix of pure offense, with a sprinkling of defense when needed.

10 ball was the main game for about 5 years in the late 2000's to mid 2010s. It did not increase viewership. And, the called shot/called safe version of it was the dumbest rule ever made. I'm glad the called safe portion of it finally went away.

but I think it's time that it won't be played anymore at the pro level.

It's too easy, and even with the 9 on the spot and breaking from the box, it took the pros a minute and a half to adjust their break and run out.

Just my 2 cents.

I struggle with this subject everytime someone post it..., I still dont se anybody running out the set? I still see very competitive matches, yet the top players are almost always there on the last day.

I dont understand what people want to see..., every other balled missed? 3'' pockets, safety battles only?

I'm not so sure about this. I always thought Snooker was super popular overseas. But anytime I see a livestream on youtube, it only has the numbers of about 1000 viewers. Way less than even the Joss Season Finale pool events.
they don't need to stream it, snooker is live on TV for all pro events

The 'snookerization' of pool is a joke. With super tight wickets comes boring 'cinch' pool. I'd rather see 4.5" pockets, race to 15 winner break. If a guy can run a set get after it.

I enjoy playing and watching 9ball. It's not about what people like to see it's about the game pros should play.

In the UK the TripleCrown(Worlds,UK Champs and Masters) are free on BBC. MR and ITV just signed a deal to show more live snooker free on ITV which is good for Brit snoooooker fans.

Pros should probably play one pocket because it tests all of the skills except for a steady diet of masses that probably only the traditional disciplines in carom require. That or they can play nine ball.

I just don’t agree at all with the argument that 9 ball is too easy. It just isn’t.

Underwater basket weaving would probably draw more eyes than 1p. Great game and i love it but its 'viewer friendly' only for the hardcore.

nine ball is a flawed game because like chess opening with the white pieces and tennis beginning with an extremely hard hit serve

the break shot is just too important

now that the conditions have been changed and the break shot is a lot less important and the break alternates between players, it is still too important

Hey, if you can get people to watch Cornhole, they'll watch anything. People throwing a bag in a hole.
Can all the talking then and go promote whatever it is you think we should see. Good luck with that. Seriously this conjecture has no 'end game'. Contact MR and let 'em know they're backing the wrong horse. Love to hear their reply. ;)

How many are breaking-and-running currently in pro pool? Not near what some think. Roughly 25% on all breaks and 30% on successful breaks. That's not a big number considering the talent out there. Super tight tables have put a dent in running racks.

And that’s why Charlie Bryant and Larry Nevel never lost a tournament. And Efren never won one with his break. Oh, wait…. Yeah I’m being sarcastic. Somehow someway the best keep winning in the flawed game.

Kinda disagree, this is from european open. It's hardly a break and run fest with exception of a couple phenomenal matches
that's misleading as a lot of players in open events are not pros or not top 100 in the world.
Focus on TV table statistics that usually feature the top players and you'll get a better number.

the flaw i’m talking about isn’t about determining the better nine ball player, it’s about attracting viewers

I don’t think changing games or rules will bring in viewers. Changing how the game is shown MIGHT. I don’t know how that could be done. In golf it was sending the leaders out last (that didn’t happen pre-TV.). In poker it was the hole card cam. I don’t know what that is as far as pool goes. Crazy atmosphere works once a year. Mosconi Cup, 16th hole at Phoenix….etc…. I don’t know how to accomplish that goal.

Maybe switch to 8ball, that's what most people are playing, they might connect better watching a game they play.

I kinda get it, but the only game that the "public" really understands is 8Ball. Its the most commonly played game in the world and its the reason that tables are in bars, so if its about growing the game its about 8Ball. If its about making kids take interest then they have to start with something easy and somewhat fast 8Ball.

I know that most of us wouldn't enjoy watching the Pros play it, but the folks sitting at home or playing APA would more likely relate.

When I first played 10B it was basically 9B with an extra ball. It made the break more random/less wired but you could still have fun going for 2 way shots and wild stuff. Modern 10B to me, is a snooze fest. I don't mind call shot games but personally I don't find it fun in a rotation game. You only have 1 shot on the table, and while, yes you can play a safe if you don't have a real shot, the part of playing 2 ways and going for a low percentage flier while keeping the CB safe is something I enjoy.
