keilwood for suckers

Obviously you never shot with an early Meucci!(grin) After ten years of gambling nightly with house cues I purchased a new Meucci for fifty bucks from an old friend that got them as lagniappe when he purchased video machines. People would laugh when I would sling that thing in a corner midset and grab a house cue. Everybody but the one I was playing! It took me about six months to learn to play with that thing. I think you could have wrapped one of those shafts around a light post without hurting it. A noodle it was!

Louie swore by those early cues of Bob's. Finally beat Buddy using one.
Nuff said.

The first CF shaft I hit with felt amazingly like a good wooden shaft. It is possible to make a nice hitting CF shaft. That isn't to say they all hit great and with some "life" to them, just that it isn't impossible. Unfortunately that is still my favorite CF shaft and it wouldn't fit my cue if I could talk the owner out of it. A 12.4 was ordered and an 11.8 came before the company released any officially so I have to suspect it was a prototype. I have no idea if the production 11.8 feels the same or not.

I suspect synthetic will take over from wood just because of the way other sports and games have went. Not something I look forward to or fear. I wish someone could develop a perfect synthetic tip to match. It would be nice to be able to order a tip with a certain narrow hardness range and get what you order, top to bottom.

I saw my brother give a gentle tap to roll a ball a few feet and my favorite roughly 13mm shaft broke less than an inch behind the maybe one inch ferrule. snapped cleanly and the broken piece lay on the table. Never seen it happen before or since. I know that shaft wasn't suffering from past abuse, I was normally the only one that touched it. I didn't break with it, I didn't use it to roll balls down to the foot of the table with, it was treated like the wonderful weapon it was. No signs of prior damage so I have to assume an invisible flaw in the wood or just the phase of the moon!

I didn't know you could get a tongue that deep in a cheek.😂

I have no explanation for the shaft breaking off. No apparent past damage or weakness and I saw the tap myself it was just enough to roll a ball from just outside the kitchen to the racking area. We have all done it thousands of times in all likelihood. I didn't want it done because it risked a tiny dent in the shaft, breaking it never crossed my mind.

My older brother had been in the army a couple years and in that time pool had became much more than a game to me, it produced two or three times the income of my day job most weeks. My stick wasn't a toy. However, it was the only quality stick at my house and we were playing on my home table so I was passing it back and forth. There wasn't anything leading up to the stick breaking. We had been playing eight ball normally for maybe an hour or so.

I was furious when the stick broke but not at my brother. The stick shouldn't have broken. Never the less, I had won low thousands with that shaft, I was currently finely tuned to it, and the loss was a blow. When I explained to my brother why I was upset he understood and offered to buy a replacement but of course it wasn't that simple.

I wouldn't let him buy a shaft both because I didn't hold him responsible for the shaft breaking and it was a crazy fluke. I replaced the entire cue and as expected it took several months to get back to the level of shape I had been playing. Very few people test hit my cue after that and nobody played with my personal cue from then to now.

I wouldn't mind a carbon shaft but I find that you can't just slap it on any butt. I've put one on my Mezz and there is no different than the Mezz wood shafts. I've also played one on a buddy's full splice cue and it shoots great on it. I'm sure I can get use to it and figure out the nuances of it but I'm trying to cut back on the pool equipment. LOL

I like to try new equipment and it would be great to review products but I am usually a one or two cue kind of a guy.

I have a cynergy shaft. Can't really say I like it or dislike it. It is 11.8 but gets thicker too quickly to suit me. I would like to have a shaft about ten mm in my bridge hand. If that meant a nine mm tip I could learn to live with it. I keep thinking that there is no reason a carbon fiber shaft can't have an internal taper or compound tapers. Some may have such a design already but I haven't heard of anyone promoting such a thing.

From Predator’s web site, about their new shaft:
Centro’s cutting-edge front-end carbon core shaft technology reduces guesswork, allowing the cue ball to push the shaft aside and reducing cue ball deflection. Its forgiveness makes it easier to pocket more balls with confidence.

There is no coming back from this..

Our beloved game is so equipment focused.

Its becoming like golf with new drivers every year.

Why can't they just give me a sales pitch with break cues. LOL

Just duct tape a pencil to the end of your shaft Hu. Eraser side out.😉

Sounds like an excellent way to market a shaft that's basically hollow on the end. Wow. What a concept. Paying extra for a bit of air.🤣
One born every minute.

Lissen to me nau. (points)

Not nau I have a headache.

OK, off topic and off color but y'all started it!

A woman was visiting a home in Mississippi on business and was astonished at the racial abuse the black maid tolerated. When the mistress of the home was out of the room for a moment the visitor asked the maid how she had tolerated that abuse for years. "All these years I have been swapping her birth control pills for aspirin. Only woman alive with eight kids and never had a headache!
