UK Open 2025 Telford, UK, May 6-11

Is that the first time Tyler beat Josh?
He beat him at the 2021 Mosconi, but I doubt that is what you are asking. Not sure if Tyler has beaten him in a major event, but their matches have often been close. At the World Games in 2022, at double hill, Tyler hooked Josh with a brilliant safety, and it looked like Filler was through. Then, however, Josh made an almost impossible kick-in and ran out for an 11-10 victory.

I think the guy that's under the radar here is Jonas Souto, who was the 2019 World Junior 9ball Champion. Perhaps he is about to live up to all the promise he showed as a junior.

In 2025, he has already won both the Seattle Open and the Helsinki Open and his form seems very strong right now. In the round of 32, Jonas beat Mario He (Fargo 812) by 10-3. On paper, Jonas is not one of the favorites here, but a strong performance tomorrow would not surprise me at all and I wish him the best.

Tyler is tantalizingly close to being an elite player. He can beat anyone, anytime, but usually can't maintain his form for entire tournaments.

that's exactly how i see him. his break is top notch, excellent fundamentals, he can play perfect pool, but the next match he hits the OB straight into the rail.

but maybe his inconsistency is a thing of the past? to me it never made sense that the most methodical player was so inconsistent

Yeah, agree with this. He needs help on his mental game.
However, after just watching the game, wow did he play well, he di one 3/4 table draw and hit so sweet .
Anyone know what he plays with now , I think he was cuetec cf, but now he is wood with someone else?

never heard of?

you don’t follow snooker
I know all the big names in snooker and have since the 1980s but Fraser Patrick has zero career titles in professional snooker competition in a twenty-year career. Per Karl Boyes, his highest ever world ranking is 65th. He lost his touring card numerous times. He has two Scottish amateur titles. I suspect there are many who watch snooker who have never heard of him. Not exactly a headliner.

We all understand how straight one must shoot to play snooker at a high level, but I'm hard pressed to think of many snooker crossovers on the men's side that enjoyed significant success in major pool competition. Mark Gray is the most obvious and Marlon Manalo another one. Judd Trump tried his hand at the US Open 9ball a few years ago and wasn't very competitive, coming tied for 33rd if memory serves.

Given this, I'm not viewing Fraser Patrick as a contender for the UK Open title, but I wish him every possible success and am always pleased when anyone wins their first pool major.

i hadnt heard of him either, outside 9-ball. it's about time UK produces another competitive 9-ball player. post- darren, gray, melling, boyes, there hasn't been much..

i watched a little from the scottish open with various local 9b players commentating, and they were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. seems to be a great scene for american pool in glasgow. so maybe the next big UK player will be a scotsman
