DigiBall Passaround Reviews

I put it in my cleaner (Clean Gleem) and it turned out just fine. I used V10, Predator, and Masters. I didn't seem to have a problem with chalk sticking more than any other cue ball.
I agree, it honestly isn't that bad but after using newer resin type balls it felt like a step backwards. It's perfectly serviceable but a cleaner formula like duramith feels like it would fit a more premium product like the digiball... Digiball feels like a premium product and I think it should have the top of the line resin. Obviously it would probably depend on a lot of factors and it is serviceable as it is now.

I still think they are already using Duramith resin but I will check.

Well fellas... It's late/early so I'm going to talk a bit of stream of consciousness. If you're a lazy fella, there is a TLDR at the end.

Old fellas: TLDR; = Too Lazy Didn't Read. Skip to the end and read TLDY; if you're just scanning.

A preface: It plays perfectly but...

If I'm buying a CB to show my acolytes (aka a "paid instructor" as the the demographic? ), I don't want to have to spit on my finger to remove chalk after a miscue. Cleanliness is next to godliness or whatever they say. I might be more OCD/tuned in than most so take it with a grain of salt if you want to.

Removing miscue chalk and well... that... and the amount of masters that sticks to it (statc?). Honestly you're analysis is dead on. I've not been too talkative on AZ lately... I just played pool with my nephew a lot since he moved in... & a buddy that left at 11:45... We started at 3PM. It's 5:40AM now. Bird are chirping outside... Sunday is a day of rest right? But your post got to me. At least got me talkative. ;)

Thread theme song, I'm ready to shoot a liver out.

But I'm drinking a few gulps of water and sleeping after this post.

@nataddrho I'm a cheap pool player, no instructor in the least, but I would pay an extra $25-50 for Duramith™ technology. Maybe more depending on the demographic. The rest of the ball is great but... I'd like it to last a decade for the price point. I was 2nd in line (fact check please I do not recall) and it already had matte spots on it. I'll be more honest (than I want to be) as I was LUCKY, to have won a chance to get the passaround. A win is a win.😀 I got the CB, played tentative... (scared of it), but after every break there was a V10 spot on it. V10 is clean but chalk STICKS to the review ball. My break is tits, but it's unorthodox. Works on tight racks or league night BS. It's a bit hard but I ain't clicking my heels on the break. I had to touch the chalk mark and scrape it with my fingernail after every break. I didn't have to wet it with spit... you know what I mean. Long story short, chalk sticks and it's a distraction. Call it OCD but I don't want to look at that and think about skids. I will beat anyone in any condition, dirty or clean, but it takes a bit for me to open the olde wallet for toys/tools.

I realize the allure and prestige/marketing of Aramith™ but realize, I'm used to the "whatever™" that a set of Dynaspheres Bronze is and it's much cleaner. If you're still in the negotiation phase, realize you are selling a tool. An instructor may want to use it for many years. Or maybe offer it at different price points in different resins at worst case scenario. Go big or go home IMO.

The Digiball™ is a great product, but being second in line, I left the CB with a lot more matte and scratchy shit than I would want to. I realized how bad it looked after about 3-4 days and packed it up in fear of it looking too bad for the rest of the queue. I was legit worried the next in line woudl think It looked like shit. I took a half an hour getting the embedded chalk out of it. It wasn't perfect when I got it... but it definitely wasn't as good as it was 4 days after it arrived.

Get a better resin. I plays right but damn, I have perimeter lights and it's noticeable when it's less than perfection.

TLDR; Feel free to roast me but I said what I said. 🤷‍♂️

Good night! 😴
Did you notice the chalk marks on the ball before you used it? I ran it thru my Diamond polisher about halfway thru my time with it when the battery died, I think I used it only once after that because the first time I charged it I had it on the charger wrong so the wasted another night of me being able to use it. If at all possible some sort of battery level indicator would be a nice feature although if I owned a Digiball I wouldn't be on a time limit so it becomes less critical.

I think the overlay is awesome! I watched the match last night and really enjoyed looking at the layout and guessing the english then watching the outcome. It adds a nice augmented experience.

And Rachel is quite the player! She has a hammer stroke!

Thanks for the video comments. I think I finally have the camera and sound the way "I" want it, ha ha! The picture was so clear! I was so happy.

I dogged the sound though. I had the video on a 5 second delay so the digiball overlay would show the english a couple seconds before each shot. But I forgot to also put the sound on a 5 second delay. This resulted in the sound being 5 seconds ahead of the video.

The digiball worked great. Both Rachel and I didn't notice any difference in play. We played 2 races to 11. She won 11-3 and I won 11-5. She's much stronger than me, I got lucky to win the second set.

We played a third set of back pocket 9 ball race to 5. My computer died part way through it, and the stream went down. It died because It had 2 USB ports. One was connected to my hub that the camera and mic were plugged into. The second was connected to my iPad so I can get the digiball overlay (from the iPad) into OBS. That didn't leave an open USB port for my computer charger. I had everything fully charged before starting, but all that stuff connected to my computer drained the battery too fast.

The only thing we both thought about the CB was that it drew back too much on the break. We both went up on the CB about mid set. I don't know if this was real or a placebo. Because drawing the ball normally during the game seemed normal. Just the break. We both talked about it after the set and both thought the same.

After she left, I played a few more sets with 2 other guys (with a normal CB), and I'm not confident enough to say if it was in our heads or there indeed was a difference. Because the first break with the normal CB my CB also zinged backwards a million miles an hour. ha ha.

The set we were using was a near new Aramith Tournament set (duramith).

Funny, a few nights before when I had the digiball at the hall and was charging it on the shelf, a couple of bangers were asking about it, and why its plugged in. I told them it's a magic cb. It has magnets inside that allow me to control how it goes, and helps me make all the shots. I think they bought it!

Feedback to Nathon for the app:

The lower left that you changed, for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to display the speed. I hold my finger on it and can go left/right to adjust the distance to match the shot. From there, I can't figure out how to display the speed. I pressed the lower right button like the instructions said, but it doesn't do anything. I also don't know if I'm supposed to adjust the distance before or after the shot.

I had to do this on the computer because I guess there is no longer any way to record touch location on the iPhone.

You can select your distance before or after the shot. I like to do it before so that I don’t forget what it was. A vertical red line will appear most of the time which indicates the first OB collision. The cursor will snap to it.

Ah, I get it now. Thanks, that worked.

Do you find value added from the DigiBall overlay when watching better players?
I did indeed. I enjoyed watching good players much more than watching pros. Rachel was playing lights out early on and then became human. Nick wasn't playing great early and then got his legs under him. Saw both miss easy shots they shouldn't, which is great because it adds a "Human- ness" to it. then saw some really good shots. The digiball layout was very helpful, as several shots both players were effective with follow/top in situations I wouldn't have used it...Educational for me.

Funny, I was perfectly in line (from the chair) with Rachel one shot, and it looked like she was cuing way off line for what should have been a straight draw shot. She executed the shot perfectly. I then turned to the digiball display out of curiosity, and it had her hitting dead 6 oclock. I didn't say anything to her, but I guess she has a correction to her stroke, mid stroke. At least on that shot she did.

Layers of the onion. A DigiCue (or observer) will tell you what your stroke is doing but not where it landed. A DigiBall will tell you where your stroke landed but not what it did to get there.
