DigiBall Passaround Reviews

I made another neat app for the DigiBall. I was thinking about this idea for a while but I couldn’t tell if it would be interesting without actually making it to see.

The app lets you record a video on your phone while tracking your DigiBall shots in sync. It then performs a post processing step and burns a ball overlay into the video. The overlay appears a few seconds before each shot. This does what the whole OBS setup does, but all on your phone.

Here’s a quick demo, pardon my lack of pool table

Here is the link to test the experimental DigiBallCam app. iOS only.

I was hoping for a link where I could order my very own Digball today!!!

We are making progress but still many months away. I am working on the product box and the FCC Compliance testing now. The antenna testing is complete, but I may need to create some more samples to continue with RF conduction/emission testing. It is a very slow and expensive process. Don't worry, we will get there!

It works!
Quick feedback:
-phone screen must be set to stay on. I had mine to shut off after 1 min, and it would stop recording at the 1 min mark.
-Please add a landscape mode.
-Please add sound.
-Please allow front facing camera to be used. Often times in a pool room the camera will be mounted against the wall, and it's impossible to see the screen and settings. I was on a tripod here in the middle of a room, so didn't have that issue.
-App seems simple enough to use.
-Overlay is perfect. No extra info. Just were the tip hit. Simple, easy to read, easy to understand.
-Ball overlay disappearing and then reappearing is great. I believe an earlier version had the ball always on the screen, with just the tip position updating (from memory). The way it is now, its very easy to understand which shot the overlay is referring to.

Ran into trouble with the main iOS DigiBall app. I took it to the pool hall the other night and had a buddy download the app on his iPhone. His phone couldn't find the ball. It only worked on my iPhone, so I just had him borrow my phone while I was playing a set with a regular CB.

Just now at home, I downloaded the app to my iPad, and it too could not find the digiBall. I turned off bluetooth on my iPhone, but the iPad still couldn't find it.

I expect this to be passed around at the pool hall, and it should probably be easy to switch which phone/ipad it links to.

Ah yes. I’ll copy what I did with the main app, which has a screen force awake feature.

I will add these.

The OBS setup on the PC/Mac generates static images that are persistent. However I can by default cause the image to become a blank transparent square after 15 seconds, and also have it “blink” between shots. I will do this.

Good work!

Good find. Try to find a pattern and I’ll try to figure out how to fix this bug.

I just beat the ghost 7-6 on my fisher price table. I had the phone app on the rail. I was using OBS. It worked pretty well. Some shots I knew I hit bad, and I walked to the rail to check the shot, and sure enough it was not where I wanted it. I'll edit the video and post it soon.

Different house. ha ha. Have them both still, but the GC might be going away as I might be moving:(. I could go a year and not beat the ghost on the 9' GC. This toy table that rolls off 3 ball widths I beat in 4 attempts.
