Van Boening vs. Gorst 10-Ball Race to 120, Rematch June 2025 -- General Comments Thread

The way people play these days, strings are like runs at the crap table. I've heard of 11 passes but low numbers are far more common.
I'm waiting for the strata that no ifs, ands, or buts, gets out period.

Fedor with a 7 pack, 78-49
He won like 9 in a row, bnr 7.
Despite what Frost (and then Sword, as well) kept saying, Gorst's package was 6, not 7. The package was Games 122-127. The two games before and after those 6 games were not B&Rs -- in Game 121 a couple of safeties were played before Gorst ran out, and in Game 128 Gorst won on his 4th visit to the table. He did have a B&R in Game 120, but that was not part of the package.

He won 10 games in a row -- Games 119-128.

I run a 7 pack for $10 .... once you figure out the break, paired with a runout game it just happens.
well, the question is more relevant now. if it's 1-1 in matches after tomorrow, a third matchup would make sense right?
And the winner plays Filler or they have no balls

Technically 7 easier than straight pool patterns. Trouble is, on the pro field they're obsessed with not looking like fish. I'd rather watch hot flyweights.

I wouldn't be so sure.

While I must concede that I have not watched any of it, this match is on a pace to be 120-75, and if that's the final score, would you, as SVB's backer, sign up for another round of this? If this merciless massacre continues to materialize, I think Fedor's logical next step would be to take a big step up in class and try his hand vs Josh Filler.

It would be nice to see SVB finish strong here.

Svb is incredible, but also 41
Yes, but as so many others on AZB have noted, he is playing as well as he ever has. The standard has risen, plain and simple, and there are two guys in the game today offering a level of play that few of us would have even believed possible just ten years ago. Winning any event in which both of them appear is awfully difficult.

By the way, 41 is not old in our sport. The legends of the game have always produced majors at SVBs age or older. Here are some examples:

Nick Varner won the US Open 9ball at 42
Jose Parica was Billiards Digest Player of the Year at 48
Joe Balsis won the All-Japan at 48
Efren Reyes won the All-Japan at 49
Buddy Hall won the US Open 9ball at 53

Every generation of players has raised the play of the one that came before them, and that's the main reason that it gets tougher and tougher to win majors for a veteran. That said, the all-time greats have always found a way, and my guess is that SVB will, too. Don't sleep on him.

Filler wouldn’t play Shane 10 ball in the past it was 9 ball he wanted to play , running racks of 10 ball on a diamond with a little more than bubble gum change I’d say is challenging
