Do used but practically new McDermott’s that had a $1400 MSRP usually sell for $500?

eBay sold for $500 on auction today a used, never-been-hit H-Series H1351 McDermott with an MSRP of $1400 (cue still had a sticker on it showing $1330 while McDermott claims MSRP $1440). There was a small nick on the butt. Was this just a poorly attended auction? Was there something wrong with this cue? Don't very good condition similar McDermotts usually sell for more than this,?

The cue introduced in 2023 had an i-2 CF/wood shaft, weight-adjustable anywhere along length of butt, bocote forearm/handle; bocote & maple rings; 6 sets of maple, bocote & black urethane handle points; 6 sets of maple, bocote & black urethane butt plate inlays; and bone urethane joint collar.

Seller may have been a pawn shop.

Looks like a pretty good deal.

To get an idea of how good check comparable sales.

Typically expect used to be 50% of new as a rule of thumb.

A couple of McDermott vendors sell new, stripped-down H-Series cues for $550 (H517, last year anyway) $620 (H323 with G-Core not the i-2 shaft) and $680 (H554). I agree the eBay sale was a good deal. My guesses are that it is harder to get a fair value for H-Series cues that are practically new with the fancier work done on the "never-been-hit" $1400 models than it is for stripped-down H-series cues. Also, McDermott does not have the resale value anywhere near that of some custom cue builders.

been saying this forever
cues resell for far less than you paid for them
unless its the top selling production cues you can expect less than 50 percent return, if you intend to sell within a year

I think you can add to that. This McDermott was from the H-Series that sells from $550 (a few times on eBay) to $2100. When selling a used cue, buyers tend to price it at the lower-end of the price range for that model. That is to say, the do-dads and extras put on the cue are given greater discount than the discount to the bare-bones model.

What doesn't matter so much is that the cue was supposedly used very little. The more-important issue is that it is used and there is no warranty.

All that would put the price even more than half off --- 60% off here.
