For me, next to wood screw in shaft, ivory joint is a beautiful hit, combined with 3/8-10 pin. McDermott style.
Is the hit really that good? I know other factors of the cue come into play..
Joe Barringer's configuration: flat ivory joint, big proprietary g10? pin, ivory ferrule, and original Moori medium is the best I've ever played with.
Starkey's wood pin and no-ferrule shaft is also very, very nice when combined with the right tip.
The pin and joint don't determine the hit.If the tip isn't right, everything behind it becomes pretty much meaningless.
Its part of it. I thinking the ebony and the scruggs cue shaft is a big part as well. The pin and joint don't determine the hit.
Dean’s post is absolutely spot on…….I miss his showmanship style about pool cues.Tim Scruggs, known for all kinds of joints and great playing cues
told me that he
preferred the flat face cues
he felt like they were the best overall
Pictures. I have an ebony/maple thread going in the gallery. After reading this thread and separating the chaff from the wheat I decided to get a big pin ivory flat face Scruggs. My 5/16 stainless joint Scruggs is a great player but the 3/8 10 ivory feels like butta. It may be imperceptible to some but not to me. It is prolly one of the plainest cues ever from Scruggs. Ebony 4 point with unstained birdseye. Right around 18 oz. No diamonds, no nuttin and it shoots. I no longer have to argue with Kenny Tran about overpriced cues. Ive got my player and Tran is iggy. I know the thread is old but thx for the info on joints.
I would say they shouldn't. If they do, there is something wrong. The pin and joint don't determine the hit.
Ivory joint ivory ferrule is like...uh, ice cream. Is the hit really that good? I know other factors of the cue come into play..
YEP.!!@ nails it.It feels, "alive", when you strike a ball
Cool, at first thought? Was headscratch. The threaded connection is a possible mechanical failure site. Cole tested for Joss East. The pin and joint don't determine the hit.
This reminds of a post evening talking with Cole. Probably burning one. ShrugHave you ever played with a South West and what did you think of that hit?
It's a subtle kind of lead in, eh??Here we go. Down the "this joint feels like......" rabbit-hole. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.![]()
Makes me Dizzy!!!My Biggest Disappointment Is Not Owning a Flat Faced Ivory Big Pin Cue by Joel Hercek
I searched high and low for years and posted WTB threads, worked with prominent
cue dealers and even offered a monetary reward as a finders fee for introducing me
to a seller of a Hercek cue weighing 18.5 ozs or little heavier but still under 19 ozs.
Alas, lots of cues were presented but few were within my weight specs & when the
cue was, its joint was piloted ivory vs flat which is my preferred joint as you can see.
And as far as ferrules go. OMG, ivory is truly the best material & all my cues have it.
