Tends to perpetuate itself - fewer black players means fewer black friends/acquaintances playing means less opportunity/interest.Is there an explanation why so few black players seem to have interest pool at professional level..?
I don't think thats a correct comparison as many more women play pool than black people do.Similar reasons why people say it's impossible for women to be as good as men. Pushed consumer trends and prevailing psychology of the people who run the show...
Not an equal comparison, but I didn't say it was, nor did I intend it to be. But they do ultimately suffer from many of the same issues.I don't think thats a correct comparison as many more women play pool than black people do.
Professional level doesn't pay very well. I doubt the names Bo Diddley, Strawberry, and Julius Cottman would ring a bell to you. They did their playing behind the scenes, where the money was largely better. Is there an explanation why so few black players seem to have interest pool at professional level..?
Well, only in the fact that there are way less women playing than men and as there even way fewer black people than women, I'd say...Not an equal comparison, but I didn't say it was, nor did I intend it to be. But they do ultimately suffer from many of the same issues.
Strawberry does but again, its only three guys.Throw Mark Tadd in there, then its four. And your point that it doesn't pay very well would attract white players but not black ones..?Makes little sense to me...Professional level doesn't pay very well. So with a post count of about 200, it's clear that you probably haven't been around the game a very long time, and you don't know the history of where the real money was. Ever heard of Cisero Murphy?Strawberry does but again, its only three guys.Throw Mark Tadd in there, then its four. And your point that it doesn't pay very well would attract white players but not black ones..?Makes little sense to me...
If youre 5'7 you'll have a hard time succeeding in those three ;-) but I see your point.Actually, I heard that there are not many black heaviweight contenders anymore becuse basketball is a better option.Salaries in basketball /football / baseball seem to be a better career to pursue
If you want a career of as an athlete
JMHO
I was a kid in the late 70s and 80s and there were actually a lot more American black baseball players back then. There are many black players in the mlb now but most are from the Dominican RepublicI'd say when most of the people here were kids their were no blacks in pro baseball either.
Ok, first, why my post count has anything to do with my time being around the game would have to be explained by you and second, Murphy passed away 29 years ago, how many black pros can you name that play professionally today? So with a post count of about 200, it's clear that you probably haven't been around the game a very long time, and you don't know the history of where the real money was. Can you name any black synchronized swimmers? If so, why is the reason?Ok, first, why my post count has anything to do with my time being around the game would have to be explained by you and second, Murphy passed away 30 years ago, how many black pros can you name that play professionally today?
