Funny pic/gif thread...

I don’t think that is a cigar in the pic. It is a woman’s hand and I think it was a More cigarette. Ask if I saw ladies smoke those in a swimming pool in the ‘70’s. It is a skill to keep the cigarette and the hair dry while dog paddling around.

Kansas City, MO is named for the Kansas River.

It predates the state of Kansas.
This reminds me of the U.S. state of New Mexico was named after the Aztec-controlled Valley of Mexico, not the modern nation of Mexico. Spanish explorers gave it the name Nuevo México (New Mexico) to describe the northern lands they believed held wealthy cultures similar to the powerful Mexica (Aztec) Empire. The name was applied in the 16th and 17th centuries, long before the nation of Mexico was established.

Confusion - New Mexico because of the similarity in names leads most people to the misconception that the U.S. state was named after the country, but this is incorrect; the territory of New Mexico was named first - long before the country of Mexico.
