And on long thin cuts along the short rail….I’d take Parica over St Louis Louie …and Jose didn’t need extra help.
Nothing against Archer but the thin cut on the 9 he missed against Buddy in the 92 us open (I believe semi finals) to go on the hill at 7-2 only to have Buddy run out the set, eliminates him from the best shooters under pressure, in my opinion.Jerry Forsyth once told me that Johnny Archer would intentionally push out to shots like this, because he thought he was better at the shot than whoever he was playing.

Reid was a very good player but possessed nowhere near the fire power of Earl, Sigel, Parica etc. This post was at the top of the weekly email that I sent out yesterday. I got a couple emails saying they would choose Efren. I also received this longer response from Thomas Hammond...
The greatest player I ever played with was Jimmy Reid. During my hs days, Jimmy moved to our area, southwest Atlanta. I had started playing in the pool room at the Ben Hill bowling alley. Jimmy started coming in there. He was about 2 years older than me, maybe 17. He had moved there from the Miami area. I saw him win a car off a guy one night. He gave the guy money for a cab. That was middle 60s, probably 1965. I saw where he was voted best money player in the world for the 25 year period 1969-1994. Anyway, I would pick him to make a have-to-make shot. RIP Jimmy.
Jimmy Reid might’ve been the smartest of all the world class players….very high IQ….but he was also a chick magnet….so he had too many parties. We used to talk a lot because he wanted to know more about snooker. This post was at the top of the weekly email that I sent out yesterday. I got a couple emails saying they would choose Efren. No snooker player except Drago achieved anything in pool...and it's not that some of the snooker greats haven't tried.
O'Sullivan beat Earl in 96Was it Earl Strickland that Ronnie beat in the Mosconi Cup, back in the 90's, at the age of 21? I know it was just a race to 5, but still really cool.
Smarter than Buddy, Efren, Mizerak, Varner or Sigel..?I very much doubt that...Jimmy Reid might’ve been the smartest of all the world class players….very high IQ….but he was also a chick magnet….so he had too many parties. We used to talk a lot because he wanted to know more about snooker.
Years ago playing push out you were often forced to shoot low percentage shots. It is amazing what you can make when you have to. Richle Ambrose would push out to impossible cuts. You say shoot again and he would make it.
We also played a lot of pill pool and ring games. When it was your turn you better be able to come with a shot be it a bank, combo, tough cut whatever. 5 handed ring 9 ball you may go several games and not shoot.
There was a popular game called " One shot Harrigan", designed for shot makers. Mosconi said if Ponzi got in he could make anything. He would end the game.
Era of the shotmakers!!Jerry Forsyth once told me that Johnny Archer would intentionally push out to shots like this, because he thought he was better at the shot than whoever he was playing.
