Peri 9 Ball Open - Oct 2-5

The Ko PY vs. Neuhausen semifinal was kind of strange. Ko led 5-3 and broke successfully in Game 9. But he played either a poor safe or a failed 2-way straight-back bank on the 2-ball and left a shot. Neuhansen ran out that game and followed it with a 4-pack and a good but fortunate jump shot on a 2/9 combo to take 6 games in a row and a 9-5 lead.

But in Game 15, after they had both missed shots, Neuhausen played a slow roll-up safe to the 7-ball and fouled by missing it entirely. Ko ran out that game and followed it with a 3-pack to tie the match at 9-9. Ko pushed after the break in the next game and Neuhausen played a good safe and ran out after Ko jumped but left a shot.

Game 20 had 3 missed shots (2 by Neuhausen) before Ko played a poor safety on the 4-ball. Neuhausen made the 4- and 5-balls but badly missed the 6, which then went 2 rails into the diagonally opposite corner pocket. Neuhausen was out after the slop shot, for the 11-9 win.

Overall the match had 10 B&Rs (6 by Neuhausen) in the 20 games, yet misses and poor safeties were also abundant.

strange indeed. didn't look like he was gonna shit the 6-ball in either, but in it went. don't know what tables these are, but shelves are fairly shallow.

i was watching the billy v lil ko and the commentator was, i guess, very dedicated to his trade, making om-nom-nom eating sounds whenever camera panned over to billy eating something in his chair (billy spent most of the match in his chair). also it seems the vietnamese can't say woodward so sky was called skyler quaqua.

another linguistic detail. in the peri open promo video played during pause, i don't think the croatian guy celebrating his win would be in there if they knew what he was shouting (the c word, probably followed by "of your mother" but it cuts away).

By far the best I’ve ever seen Neuhausen play. His confidence is sky high, as reflected by his very quick pace. He’ll go to the top of the board for Mosconi and the top Euro point getter for Reyes if he wins. 11-3.

also many instances where he doesn't push out, and instead kicks or jumps. he's been pretty flawless.

notice that he puts the chalk down on a diamond before every shot.

Wow. 13-4 over Ko Ping Chung. That's super-impressive. Well played. With wins at the Peri and the Premier League Pool, Moritz is firmly in the Mosconi conversation. Hope they pick him for Team Europe.
The win should put Neuhausen first for Team Europe if I understand the MR point system correctly. He would be almost a lock for one of the top three automatic spots. His performance over the last two days was as fine as any I’ve seen this year.

Well played and well done!

Do you guys know how wide the pockets were on those Peri tables?
They look wider than 4 inches. They sure played easier than the Predator tables at the World 10 Ball.

Neuhausen would have beaten God in that match.
Extremely well played from break to finish.
Yup; Neuhausen was pretty good in his match with Woodward -- 9 of 10 successful breaks (1 scratch), 6 B&Rs (a 4-pack and a 2-pack), 2 missed shots (1 on a jump). Here is a video of the match, edited down to show just the shots (in about 13 minutes):

i'm not sure pockets are wider, but shelf seemed shallower than most pro tourney tables

FSR got just enough points

i watched Moritz play Sky, went to bed and woke up to watch him play Chung in the final. Later I watched the highlights of his match vs Big Ko.

Neuhausen was nearly flawless vs Sky and almost as good vs Chung.

He started out the match with Sky with a four-pack of BRs. Sky pulled two back, but he made a big error on a push to cost him several more games. His safety execution - not so much his safety choices - was below par. That gave Neuhausen all the room he needed to finish him off. Moritz’ safety execution was very good.

Moritz played almost the same vs. Chung. He broke well, often got a look at the next ball, and controlled the table when he didn’t. Chung had few opportunities.

Neuhausen jumped out 9-5 on big Ko the same way. Only after Ko battled back did Neuhausen show some nerves and feel the pressure.

In all three matches, Moritz played at a very quick pace. His shotmaking and positional play was so good he rarely needed to reexamine the table. It was the most confident display of shotmaking I have seen in quite some time. I’ve watched Moritz a lot, but this was on a whole new level for him.
