I love double elimination. First dozen tournaments south of the border I won were all from the B-side.
We had a few DKO full rack snooker tournaments in Canada back in the action days that were well attended.
The major problem with using double elimination all the way through is for scheduling. It is horrible for both the TD and the players. A single snail on the losers' side and the tournament ends at 3AM when the two finalists split the prizes. Sadly, most TDs don't have the equivalent of:

Obvious solution is putting a time limit on a match and a shot clock.

Guess one of the first round match-ups?

It’s Franco Nero vs Lee Van Cleef! 😁

Django vs Efren is sooo appropo!

Why can't they just make it a double elimination format similar to other WNT event? Up until yesterday, fans are still clueless about whether tickets are needed or if it’s open to everyone. Not exactly a good start especially with the single-elimination format. Still hoping the event turns out successful.

From the live scores page, it appears the tournament is being run on eight tables. The Matchroom majors are on 24 to 30 or so tables.

Wow, eyeballing the list, about 85% of the field is Asian.

I have a feeling this event is going to be superb. Single elimination is a very tough format, but the cream will still rise to the top.

All the credit to Matchroom for producing a new WNT major and good luck to all these fine players.

With 85% of that Filipino.

I suspect that many of the Europeans who were around for the earlier events didn't want to stick around the extra two weeks between the end of the Hanoi Open (12th) and the end of the Philippine Open (25th) -- extra week for the Reyes Cup. Schedule fatigue?

Still, I think the round of 32 is going to be a lot of tough matches.

We know how deep the talent pool is in the Philippines. I think a lot of really top-notch pool will be on display.

Begs the question, Is Fargo up to the density?
Jay Helfert has suggested that there are 100 Filipinos 18 years old or younger that play to a Fargo 750 level or better. Fargo can only track those who play in tournaments that report results to Fargo. I'd guess that many of the entrants in the Philippines Open have never played in a Fargo-tracked event.
