I was hoping Lukas Verner would have had a shot since he placed well at a number of WNT events this year. I can understand picking Billy because of the environment. Going into that environment for the MC debut would be a big ask. I think if the MC was in the States this year, then I would have loved to see Lucas get the 5th spot.
So Oscar plays great in a "big money" match, but not as much in other matches? Not reassuring.
In any case, the Mosconi matches are money matches. $40,000 to be on the winning team.
You know, I completely forgot about Lukas. He has been traveling to a lot of these WNT events and has done well. Was he even considered or did Woodward just go with the people he felt the most comfortable with? And even though the environment may have been big for Lukas, it would have done well for his growth.

For the longest of time throughout this year, Lukas was 3rd-5th in the Mosconi Cup rankings. I haven't looked yet, but I believe that if you look at Billy's and Lukas's records this year in WNT events, Lukas had the better year.
Max Eberle is not even in the top 30 in the US. That would put him at somewhere around #500 in the world. He has been playing very little pro pool the last 10 years.

I never said that. My only point was head to head, under the heat against Billy, I’m taking Oscar. Therefore, he would have been my pick this year for the Mosconi and last year. It probably doesn’t make a big difference one way or the other though. It’ll take a near miracle for Team USA to beat the European team anyways. Picking Oscar over Billy wouldn’t have changed that
At least Billy is fun and pumps up the crowd. My first 2 picks every MC would be Shaw and Billy, next would be Filler, after that I don't really care, Fedor and Shane are boring but can get pumped up. If nothing else, let's hope we have entertainment and a pumped up crowd.

We only have talent for #1 and 2. We immediately drive off a cliff after that.
Anybody betting on anybody past Shane and Fedor hates their $$$ with a passion.
What's really bad is anybody betting on Shane having a winning record hates their $$$ just as much as betting on everybody other that Fedor.

I think I was Shaun Wilkes neighbor when he got snubbed after making the points. Takes your heart away when you put in the time and $$$$ and then get skipped. Has happened to quite a few...we wonder why we cant grow the sport in the USA. All points, all the time
Careful; Team USA has won more lags than Team Europe in 4 of the last 12 years (including the last 2) and won the Cup just 1 of those 4.
Lags are important! Getting the first jump out of the gate is an advantage. I always tell my partner to practice the lag on the table they will be shooting on beforehand to get a feel of the cloth and speed.
That said, it is nice to know Team USA excels in lags.
I was referring to the year he was traveling with the team and in the end got taken off for, IIRC, Justin Bergman.
I feel from watching the MC the lag isn’t that important compared to:
1. Finishing an easy out without mucking it up
2. Making a ball on the break
3. Winning safety battles
