Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

Tomorrow is the biggest day of SVB and Gorst's entire lives.

Small tables/big pockets and handicap leagues/tournaments have more to do with the overall lack of talent in American pool, but it doesn't explain why we always get our asses kicked in this event.

Every player on team US spends the majority of their time playing on big tables.
I agree. America pros spend the majority of their playing on 9 footers. I think the Europeans are just more composed and better at team events.

Maybe the Oscar, Lukas Jeremy Sossei and others figured that you can spend the time and money, but will never be picked once you don't earn the points. The picks are reserved for buddies in the USA ... and there you have the problem my fellow countrymen.
Yeah, I mean this type of sorry ass attitude is why USA is lagging behind the rest of the world. Representing USA in the Mosconi cup should be a bi-product of a pursuit to be the best player you can possibly be, it shouldn't be the goal itself.

It's far less cool to swallow your pride, hire a coach, and spend hours every day working on the boring stuff. It's cooler to be the best player in your city and spend your time in the pool room drinking and/or complaining about handicapped tournaments and how nitty the world is nowadays because nobody will match up with you.

Team USA gets shit-stomped in these events because there are hundreds of guys in Europe & Asia that have dedicated their lives to being pool players. Most of them will never even make the semi-finals of a major pool tournament much less sniff the Mosconi, but they gave it their all.

IMO, at this level of competition, you do not waltz in and play on equipment that is as different as these tables -- pockets and cloth (don't know about the balls and any secret sauce being used to polish them), without a few weeks to dial them in.

Our guys have the talent but don't do the prep.

The conditions are the same for both sides.

Americans are not doing so well on regular single events either.
I've said it once and I'll say it again - "Attitude and Mentality"

Yup
Plus Hatch and Morris....just let it fly.
Yeah idk about Hatch and Morris but post-break, aside from Fedor & Shane, I'm not sure there's anyone better at potting balls and running out in this country...and that's with 65 yr old eyes and no ability to jump

no chance in this. no 65yr olds could get there in this deal.

you really are clueless. none of these guys grew up on snooker tables.
not entirely correct.
European pool is rooted in snooker which used to be bigger than pool in most of Europe.
Snooker is regularly broadcast on Euro Sport (European sports channels) and this made popular in most of Europe.
Shaw comes from snooker but most of the younger players have already born into pool, but again, the game is rooted in snooker and many clubs have both type of tables.
Some countries have different games that usually require a lot more skill than bar box 8 ball, like the Kaisa in Findland

that’s true, but who’s really out there? Besides Shane and Fedor there are no great American pros
the US is in short supply of world-class big table players. Besides these guys there's only a handful of others. Plus in the MC they'd have to be current WNT players because it is MR's show. You've got Wolford, Lukas, Oscar and maybe a few others and the bad part is there's not many in the pipeline coming up. Europe will be the prohibitive favorite for the next 10-15yrs easy.

Probably no one right now, but you need to look for the future and invest in kids, the next 10 years are lost, but if you start now you might get somewhere.
Maybe that won't help either... look at Savannah Easton, she's like the great white hype but I don't think that she'll get much further than where she's at, like Fedor, she's into self branding more than getting better at this game. That's another problematic attitude of today's America

At this point I’d rather watch archer, Strickland, morris, hatch, and a kid like Chris reinhold represent USA.

This wouldn’t be so bad if it was just losing on the breaks but with losing every defensive battle combined with not getting out on “routine” outs, it’s just brutal.

Yes they are.

However, at least what I heard is was that the Europeans were holed up practicing on said equipment for a couple of weeks prior, while our guys where playing at various events here in the States on completely different equipment.

She's 15 and has improved tremendously in the last 2-3 yrs.

Fedor is indeed quite entrepreneurial, but do you think anyone >700 Fargo in the United States not named Shane (and maybe Tyler Styer) spends more time trying to improve their game than Fedor?

The real problem is America doesn't treat Billiards/Pool as a sport like the rest of the world. Ever since it was looked down on as a gambler/risky game back in the days it's been frowned upon. If America ever wants to be competitive in this game it needs to be introduced early and treated like a main stream sport is in middle school and high school. If not well never get another generation that would have a chance..were lagging behind in this sport compared to the rest of the world.

Can you blame them for trying to make money in a game that doesn't pay much? There's only so much they can make playing the game. These aren't amateurs playing for the love of the game, its a job that doesn't pay great. IMO they'd be stupid not to make money at every opportunity.

This is gonna be fake news. Are we to believe that Matchroom, who desperately wants/needs the USA to be competitive, is actively giving Team Europe an advantage like that?
