Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

All those years ago Great Britain had to recruit the help of an entire continent to even up this match and chants of EUROPE have rained down on us since. This is a simple solution to even out this match and shut up certain individuals and it is quite simple:

USA + Philippines.

Each country must send at least 2 representatives.

Imagine, Fedor, SVB, Chua, Biado, Corteza

That would shut up Shaw immediately. This must be done to save the event.

Did you ever have a basic geography course growing up?

Just a vacation for team usa ....

I'm jealous - they'll have more time to experience Christmas in London the way things have gone. We've now been lucky to visit each of the past two springs (making up for lost time for decades of work and little or no vacations) but we just can't ever make sense of not being with family here just to fly to some European city in the winter.

If any of the players (who I'm sure are hanging on every piece of advice here on the forum) or visitors want ideas for some good restaurants or pubs . . . . .

Have wanted to go to the Mosconi Cup for 20 years, and finally I had the chance. Only went one day though, but it was awesome, and will definitely go back another time. (But hopefully they will find another venue than Ally Pally, which is far away from everything)

The atmosphere and noice is NOTHING when watching on tv compared to feeling and experiencing it inside the arena.

I was blown away of how loud and tense it was.

Hats off to the players who manage to make balls in that setting. You can see they are very nervous and feeling the pressure on every single shot.

All in all a great experience, but it was definitely poor sportsmanship from the crowd on the 9-ball the seconds before Tyler missed against Moritz.

On all other shots the crowd quieted down, but I think it just got out of control on this 9.
I see people blame the ref, but he actually tried a few times to calm down on that show but with no luck.

I guess it would not have happened with any other players, but when the crowd saw the awkward position on the nine everyone felt that this was another miss coming from Tyler.

It was not an option for the ref to reset clock, stop Tyler and ask the audience to be quiet, and then let him shoot. Had he missed then everyone would definitely have blamed the ref.

Just poor sportsmanship from the crowd - on that particular shot. Otherwise I felt it was all good.

The level of play has been great, and the score could and should have been closer. Three matches ended 5-4 to Europe, after USA missed. So instead of 8-3 Europe it could have been 5-6 USA.

I am all Europe, but I really wish USA will win next year.

The Mosconi Cup is great, but if Europe keeps winning every year people will lose interest

nice writeup. ref was out of picture for a good part of that sequence, and i agree with your reasoning on stopping play there

I agree completely. Getting into the spirit of the event is one thing...Turning it into a spectacle worthy of turnbuckles and everything else associated with a professional wrestling event, is another.
That was more than "a little overboard," IMO. The Referee should have absolutely stopped the shot clock, and given the crowd a healthy dose of STFU while he (Styer) was down on that 9 ball.

I wonder where this goes next? Fans using air horns and lasers on the players? Fans and other players running around the table (or on the table) during play? People throwing things at players?

It will be interesting to see where Matchroom places the line given that they removed one of the longstanding sports norms for this event.

As frustrating as the day was, it was very entertaining. Can’t really argue with what Emily said, but the refs will have to let it go when the crowd gets noisy next year in the US. We will give it back in spades.
That’s been said every year. American fans are too polite. Or maybe they’re too embarrassed or composed to show their asses as much as the Brit fans. Bottom line, not exactly sure why but
American fans just aren’t as loud and obnoxious.

Perhaps they should just let the "fans" run screaming towards the players for selfies while the players are attempting to shoot. Either they (MR) want a respectable event, or the billiards equivalent of mud wrestling...
👍

All I can say is that I didn't want to watch any more after the ref didn't stop tyler on the case ball at hill-hill and reset the clock and kick the pieces of crap in the audience that wouldn't shut up out.

Then I did continue to watch and the ref kept letting it happen. Total horse shit.
Not a popular position to have my dude. Emily explained it’s impossible to do even minimal crowd control any longer. It’s too hard for the Refs. Plus it doesn’t fit the objective.

You've made my point perfectly. This isn't real pool. Call this dog-n-pony show anything you want but real competition. Been that way for yrs. Its exactly what MR wants. It reminds me of pro wrestling, some people believe that shit's on the square. Please.

the description by roy above is worth reading. ref tried but didn't succeed. if he would have stopped play at that point, he probably would have got the blame for the inevitable choke shot

aside from that particular match it doesn't seem crazier than any other year?

What exactly is "the objective?" If Emily wants folks to believe they (MR) have zero control over the running of their own event, she'd have better odds pi$$ing up a tree IMO.

Good point and I’m not there, hopefully this was just a one off situation.
