Actually that was made by Mike Cochran, it just has Tim’s initials on it. Mike liked to do that shape at the top of his radial pins.
I don't use joint protectors, I fail to see their point.

Yeah, same thought with my first cue joint (5/16 x 18.) That's why I treat my non quick release cues like a Showtime Rotisserie. Set it, and forget it!

I can say for sure that they work when you drop a cue on the ground. This happened to me, I forgot to close my cue case and both halves of this particular clue fell on the cement and permanently damaged it. It ruined the shaft, and also misaligned the male pin of the butt end. I know for a fact that if I had the pin protectors on my stick everything would have been okay because they landed directly on the joint when they hit the ground. Yes, I should have had my case zipped up, but to err is human. Although, thanks for your comment that really doesn't have any relevance in this particular thread.
