Thoughts ... Russian Kenny is out of prision

The only thing he did wrong was get caught😂
Well if that isn't Fargo 888 ghetto mentality.

Guy is a degenerate douche....
Al the cash he and Scooter were gambling years back was stolen from car wash quarter change machines. Multiple felonies, hitting them in a couple states over and over. No sane person gambles against SVB shooting spot shots....unless it was other people's money.

Everyone in jail feels that way. I’d rather read stories about players that help/sponsor kids or organizations than this bullshit. Rather hear players tell others the best hustle is a 9-5 with a paycheck.

That catches up. And gambling… any gamblers I knew growing up I kept a cues length with an extension.

Funny to watch this thread debate Russian Kenny. When it comes to pool and action—not tournaments—most players have a little larceny in them. If you take a trip to the SBE or Derby, everyone’s looking for a lock when money’s on the line. Is that stealing? Maybe. Is that hustling? Not really. The true hustler days are gone, wiped out by the internet and social media.

I'd rather lift someone up than kick 'em when they're down. I've never been to prison, but I can't imagine what that experience does to a person's mental well-being. I'm hoping the kid finds a way to enjoy his life.

Kid? Didn't he say he's in his 40's? Maybe I misheard. An any rate, in my experience a leopard doesn't change its stripes. From the sounds of it, the drug bust wasn't an isolated fall from grace; just the first time he was caught doing something criminal. Based on what I've read here, it seems like this dude was shaping up to be a career criminal. Will prison reform him? Not likely. He's up against 10-5 and the breaks, stepping right back into the world and people that got him there. Like Ice Cube said in Friday, "Peer pressure is a mother fucker." This won't be the last we hear of him. Someone will revive this thread down the line with news of his unfortunate incarceration.

I'd be out $20, nobody would buy me.
I just hate Calcutta. I usually just say put me in the pool and they move on. A degenerate gambler acquaintance of mine bought the pool for $60 and I finished high enough (tied 4th/5th) to get him about $200. That's my Calcutta story, super exciting I know.

In the meantime the tournament didn't get over til 4AM after the auction took over an hour. So much fun and value added. :rolleyes: I say just make another pot with a $50-100 entry if anyone wants bigger stakes.

I agree with you and others are doing the same. How many times do you hear or read on AZ Billiards about folks showing kids the pool games we love. I do like to see a good money game...but with good money.

Pool in the States is held back by pool tables being mostly in places with liquor. Where do kids get to play? If someone donated a pool table to a school, would the school board allow it? This compares poorly with our European counterparts.

Generally, they won't put you in the pool at your own request. Otherwise, everyone would request it.

I had another bad experience in a Calcutta. I initially went into the pool and was undefeated the first day of a two-day regional tournament. Well they had a second Calcutta at the start of the second day for the players remaining and I went for the highest bid (I know I was not the favorite...I might have been in the middle of the pack for the players remaining). Anyway, I went for several hundred dollars. After the auction, the guy that bid on / won me must have heard he paid too much so he asked me to buy half of myself. I declined and he threw a little mini fit about it. I play pool for the enjoyment and if I win anything (in a tournament or gambling) it's just a byproduct of me playing the game I enjoy. In this instance, the Calcutta distracted from and ruined my enjoyment.

If you’re put in the pool than you have no option to buy any percentage back. And you can’t buy the pool. At least that’s how it’s done around here.

He was robbing people at SBE routinely... with the whole pit table hustle dumping the rail hustle. I learned to bet with that crew and booked nearly 100% winners.

Hardly a kid and that tiger won't ever change his stripes. Better chance of him making Mosconi than keeping his nose clean.

Here they don't care who buys the pool and I'm usually not good enough to be a threat. I was on one that day.

Usually the pool is the folks who know they are dead money and don't feel like posturing. We get guys bidding themselves up to $100 or more and I can give them the 7 and out. 🤔 I'd rather strive for the chance to win the tournament money than double my entry fee with a minuscule chance to win. I know that's probably "loser talk" but I'm not tone deaf enough to think I'll regularly beat some of the monsters around here. Once in a blue moon maybe but it's less than 50/50 odds and to me that's a bad gamble. You might as well be flipping coins at that point, it's much less work and quicker.

No shade on the people who like to gamble though, I get it, it's something to do. Plus, I strive for the day I can laugh about winning it and the Calcutta going to second place, that will make for some fun banter. :)

They always auction off the pool last, but it does get sold. Someone owns everyone by the time the Calcutta is done.

You apparently know him, and certainly far better than I. I only met him about 10 years ago.
Are you local to the Philly area?

there are hustles in all works of life. and those that cant and are just followers tend to put them down because they are more successful.

the difference between a hustler and one that isn't worth his salt in life, is his principles on how he treats those he gambles or acts with.

you can be an honest hustler or a dishonest one. hustling is not cheating.

No particular disagreement. That being said, you've essentially just eliminated professional sports in it's entirety.
Maybe that is why I am not a sports fan {Excepting:: F1 racing, Australian Power Boat Racing, and golf}
I do not watch: {football, baseball, hockey, soccer, basketball, ...}

Splitting hairs.
