OB Cues?

I have an OB cue and shaft with the short regular looking ferrule. I think I bought it maybe 10 or 15 years ago at APA Nationals in Las Vegas. I met the owner, Royce I think it was. I know he passed and the company is gone. The cue was not particularly expensive but I like how it played compared to my Falcon with non cat Predator shaft. How are these cues regarded these days?

I don't know how they are regarded by "actual" pool players, as I myself am a C player on a good day. I have a 30" OB Classic shaft that I use on a 30" Larry Vigus butt and it's my favorite cue of all that I have.

I Have one too, a custom, one of the very last ones made before they closed. I have a very skilled custom cuemaker friend in NY that does my tips. He looked it over, and was impressed. He said the finish on my cue is one of the best he has ever seen. So they were putting out quality cues, at least in the final years, under jeremy and amy jones' leadership.

From what I've heard they are quality and people really like them but they are a dead brand so they don't come up in conversation much around my area.

You can't just go order one so people don't recommend them much but if you saw a used one or something you would be getting a good cue.

J&J still has some shafts and blanks. Just have to check their site. IMO the Classic+ was one of the best lo-def. shafts out there. I liked it better than a 314.

I switched from a Z2 to an OB2+ and it was similar, a tiny bit less whippy. I then went to a Revo 11.8, then switched games and now use a Revo 3C-U with a BK Rush butt (per recommendation of poolmanis). I also have a custom made 11.3 PDB OB Cues carom shaft.

These are the only cues I have ever really used as main playing cues and they are both very good.

OB has a good reputation among players.

I was at the super billiards getting ready to pull the trigger on my first predator when my friend said why don’t you try ob . It was the first year it was there. I hit one ball and knew it was the one for me lol wish I still had it

IIRC, Shane promoted or was using them when they were new in the pool scene. Got curious on how they were making the cue shafts. I remember it when I was debating on getting a 314 or an OB1 back in 2009. Heard some great things about it but couldn't get the OB1 back then. Settled for the old 314.

The OB's with the short white ferrule rocked. The Classic had laminated strips bundled together, the Classic+ had solid strips bundled together. That shaft played/hit/felt great. J&J still has some partials.

OK, out of storage and ready to go, just need to find some time to go out and shoot....

I still use my OB classic shaft as a daily player. I fit it to a sneaky butt when I first purchased it and lost the OB insignia due to my joint being .002 smaller on the butt.

Love the way it plays. I went to clean the ferrule the other day and it came off the shaft tennon.
Glued it back on and its fine once again.
I have broke with this a few times over the years but not often. It seems to play very similar to my early Predator shafts.

Quit playing late 2021, it was a snap-decision. Put my case in the boot of my car then realized I wasn't looking forward to playing so I didn't bother. Left my case in said boot, containing a Poison Bolt full cue and an OB1 shaft which I screwed in to a Universal. In January 2022 I arranged a few sets with a friend to see if I could regain my interest. Made the hour-long drive across Birmingham (UK) to the pool club only to find that both the Poison and OB shafts had warped. Absolutely gutted, I loved both cues. I haven't played since.

I thought Dale Perry escorted OB into its final death spiral.
DP was not the reason they folded. He came in to show them how to use CNC more effectively. I think that Jones guy just bit off more than he could chew. They had good products but they just couldn't keep up. Mark Griffin got involved and then backed off, covid hit and that was it. Multiple reasons they folded.

The cues and shafts are worth less than you paid for them.

There are no OB collectors and while there are general collectors that will buy an OB butt/shaft to have in their collection, there not "shelling" out the big bucks to get them.

I have two butts in my collection one merry widow and one fancy 1of 10 edition with lots of inlays. I have about $400 all-in for the two cues.

Best place to sell is going to be eBay but there are several OB's on there now that the owners have decided are rare and unusual so are asking stupid prices and as a result they are going unsold.

They made good playing cues but i can't see anyone collecting them. WTF am i saying, people collect balls of twine and barbed-wire. ;)

Hey Texas maker... That alone is a reason to have a couple of examples in the collection!
