I just stumbled upon this. I think it was about 4 months ago.

What a great interview with Oscar as usual. Oscar is such a great representative of professional pool.

He spoke candidly at the end about the whole JA debacle.

Oscar mentioned that the worst part of this situation was watching the demise of one of his hero's.

Which I would think that most pool fans share the same sentiment.

The amazing part of this situation is the debt is only 6500.00

I'm just blown away that someone in JA's world with wealth didn't step up and square up with Oscar.

I'm not suggesting they had any obligation, but to watch a legend, that they called a close friend be publicly vilified over 6500.00 is very sad.

BTW- I'm not downplaying or absolving JA actions. He clearly was responsible for this mess.

Its just sad to see a legend/player of the decade be reduced to this mockery.

Someone said that JA lost most of what he had in his poolroom, he also went through a divorce. Not making excuses but shit does tend to happen. I assume JA is playing tourneys more regularly because he needs the $ but a guy like him could surely book up as many exhibitions/appearances/lessons as he wants and make a lot more $ without the hassle and a more predictable/efficient schedule. He does seem to be sober and was wearing a blazer when he did commentary for UP which both are a good place to start.

Oh shit, I didnt know that all I had to do was wear a blazer to become respectable when I screwed somebody out of $6,500

I think the other thing that pissed off Oscar as I remember when it happened is ja didn’t try to reach out to work it out and pay off the debt. Like give 1k or there .. he just ignored it. Ja said he was flat broke trying to get an apartment so he could see his kids. Just a shitty situation .

Johnny must not have many people who trust him or one of his friends would have "loaned" him the money to pay Oscar before it ever got to this point.

People convince themselves of their version of the truth...but Archer is guilty by the court of public opinion. His legacy for those who followed him im the day is tarnished for sure and he doesn't care.

Am I the only one that remembers when Archer was commenting on a streamed match where the discussion about Mosconi Cup players came up?
Where Archer went on a rant about how it should only be American players on the team, and how Oscar wasn't American, but was instead, a Mexican, and how that should disqualify him from being on the team because he wasn't American. 😂

I don't know about all of you, but as far as I am concerned, this was Johnny showing his true colors way back in the day.
I don't care what anybody says.
The fact that Oscar is BROWN, it's part of the reason, Archer stiffed him. Guaranteed!

WTF. You are clueless here. Quit spewing your moronic guesses. Archer actually grabbed up some of the 'up' money and said he'd catch him later. You do know Oscar was born IN California right?Congrats btw. You just became 2026's newest member on my Ignore list. Your crap isn't worth fading.

Archer's a nit and has played that role for years. The reason no one in 'JA's world with wealth' didn't step up is because they think he's a nit too. The guy fk'd off a marriage and multiple rooms have crashed under his 'leadership'. What he did to OD is just par for his course. BTW, i have friends in Vegas that were there at various times during that match. Archer's stakehorse gave him the $$ and Johnny took some and told Oscar he'd hit him up later. Well, we all know how that shit went. People tend to confuse one's ability to play a game and the ability/desire to be a decent human.

Did you understand what I said?
I'm quoting Archer on the stream 😂
Archer was the one who didn't think Oscar was American, when everyone on the stream, knew he was and was ripping archer apart in the comments because of it.

But oh well.
I'm on ignore so you won't see this message LOL

I know what you meant!

I got so upset with Keith when he gave his One Pocket Hall of Fame speech and was reminiscing about shooting pool in California and how all "the Mexicans" were hard to beat. I did not like him using the term, "the Mexicans," but apparently, others said it wasn't offensive. Maybe I'm more politically minded living in DC about wording, I guess.

Archer's comments on the stream, in my opinion, were xenophobic and not the way most of us pool fans feel about Oscar. In fact, I think it sucks a big weenie that he has been overlooked in recent Mosconi Cups. I'm not bashing how the selections were made because I know how difficult that must have been, like Sophie's Choice, but Oscar deserved to be there. Today he's very much staying in combat and is not letting Mosconi Cup or WNT affect his passion for pool. I like that about him.
