Those arriving after Friday may be impacted. The weather situation is continuing to take shape, but the current forecast for that part of Indiana shows heavy snow for Sat and Sun with the two day total between 14"-18". Ice being the biggest threat for power loss and highway closures.

The National Weather Service warned of “great swaths of heavy snow, sleet, and treacherous freezing rain” starting Friday in much of the nation’s midsection and then shifting toward the East Coast through Sunday.

Temperatures will be slow to warm in many areas, meaning ice that forms on roads and sidewalks might stick around, forecasters say.

The exact timing of the approaching storm — and where it is headed — remained uncertain on Tuesday. Forecasters say it can be challenging to predict precisely which areas could see rain and which ones could be punished with ice.

I'm monitoring all of this because I live in SW Indiana. It could affect our high school basketball games this weekend.

I'd say if you are going to the Derby you better get there by early-mid day on Friday and get in your hotel room.

Stay safe everyone. Looking forward to updates.

No weather for a cobra!!!

The ice/snow storm may be particularly problematic for anyone staying in New Albany and having to commute back and forth to the casino.

take care

The first year at the casino was the big ice storm.

Here is the current forecast -- be careful, especially if you are driving.

WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY MORNING

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow accumulations between 9 and 14 inches and ice accumulations around two tenths of an inch possible.

* WHERE...Portions of south central Indiana and central Kentucky.

* WHEN...From late Friday night through Monday morning.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible

Sounds like it is going to be real bad . . .

Down here we have a rule concerning boats, sailing, and storms: "It is one thing to be out and get caught in it, but it's entirely another to put out knowing it's out there." Folks in the second category get help but little sympathy.

We teach this to our kids somewhat differently when they begin running out to the islands laying 12 miles south of here: "If a squall is making up, never try to beat the weather and cross in front of the squall. If you are safe, stay safe." (Those anvil- headed "purple people eater" clouds tell you all you need to know.)

Just a reminder -- y'all know what to do -- just do it.

And, have a good time when you do get there.

ice is real slippery on roads when the temps are around freezing but not so much when way down low.
if you have proper tires and front wheel drive or all wheel drive the snow which is getting plowed should not be a real problem.
as long as you drive at safer speeds and distance from others. if scared stay home of course.

Probably smart to just stay home. But........what if no one goes because of the weather? Not even the players. Then what? Is it canceled? Rescheduled? Refunded?
Pool players(me included) are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. There will be people there. If its really bad they may cancel/re-schedule but it would be the first time ever.
