Filler at The Derby 2/1/2026 Just won against Shane 9 B 9-0

Svb has done that same thing to people. That level of play winner breaks can be a beat down
Not saying that I, like svb🥺

There's a guy who played quite well and we faced off in quite a few tournaments and it was always tight.

Can't remember who won which and in two consecutive match-ups, one of us won 9-0 and then lost 1-9.

Weird shit happens occasionally when you have a large sample size.

Alternate 9 Ball racking positions through out each match; one ball on the spot for the first rack, then alternate to nine ball on the spot for the second rack, and so on. This would be more of a challenge for all the players and make the game less routine and more interesting.

Seems the world is committed to slowing down the best 9ball player of this generation, and possibly the best 9ball player that ever lived. At the Derby, they have tweaked the break year after year and they reintroduced jump cues which were banned for decades at the Derby. It doesn't really matter, Filler succeeds at the Derby 9ball year after year and has set the bar so high that, at times, it seems unfair .... but it is fair!

I couldn't be happier for SVB, the 2026 Derby City Master of the Table, but when it comes to 9ball, he is no Josh Filler, and he never played 9ball at the level that Josh Filler exhibits today.

he's a freak of nature. has there been a threepeat before? shane maybe?

I'm not really a religious follower of the game as you are, how would you rate Filler as an all-around player?

if tournaments are nothing but a test to see who is the best. that is already easy to surmise.

but if they are a game to be played where most have a chance of winning or at least getting very close then they become a sport.
which can be played by many, who now have some chances. and interest grows. as well as excitement.
rather than a mostly foregone conclusion.

He is in the discussion for best all-around, but Gorst, with three of the last five DCC Master of the Table awards, must still be reckoned best.

That said, Josh wins the big ones in every discipline, as Skogstokig noted in Post #27.

that makes zero sense. ice hockey wasn't a sport when the soviet union dominated? golf wasn't a sport in the tiger woods era, olympic wrestling wasn't a sport in the karelin years..

Yes, and pool, having produced four different players-of-the year in four years (FSR 2022, Filler 2023, Gorst 2024, Yapp 2025) is a sport based on your criteria.

yes pool is a sport for sure.

but pool tournaments in general are not. as said or implied in my post.

they favor the same very few top players to take off most of the money.
that is my contention with them.

they are not exciting to watch except to die hard players.

and as sjm said, this one was painfully slow. that in itself ruins it.

When are we going to see a Gorst / Filler challenge match? I want to see an all-around (9 ball, 10 ball, 14.1 and one pocket). I'd buy that match.

And I'd rather not see an inflated, meaningless "in the middle" amount from corporations. How about they play winner-take-all for the proceeds from the stream?

I doubt if either would go for that. This is their job, why work for free?
It wouldn't be for free. Winner would get all the money from the players portion of the streams sold to watch them play. Such a clash would probably bring in a lot of money.

The Challenge of Champions in Puerto Rico in December 2024 was an all-around of this nature. Filler, Biado and Gorst, who won the three WPA sanctioned world championships that year were the three invitees. Filler and Gorst met in each of 8ball, 9ball and 10ball. Gorst won the 8ball, and Filler won both the 9ball and the 10ball.

Like you, I think most of us would like to see an all-around featuring the two best players of this generation. I suspect it would take a lot of money to make it happen.

Assuming you mean at the DCC, the only other threepeat in the 3 points events was Reyes in One-Pocket in 2004-2006. Then he tacked on another win in 2007 to make it a fourpeat. Here are all of the repeats at the DCC:

• Banks -- Brumback (2009-10) and Gorst (2022-23).
• One-Pocket -- Reyes (2004-2007), Van Boening (2011-12), Pagulayan (2015-16), Bustamante (2018-19), and Gorst (2024-25).
• 9-Ball -- Filler (2024-26).
• Master of the Table -- Reyes (2004-05), Van Boening (2011-12), Pagulayan (2015-16), and Gorst (2022-23).
And lest we forget the Bigfoot 10-Ball -- Van Boening (2014-15) and Shaw (2016-17).

Great research here. Given that there were about 500 entries each year in the Derby City 9ball, Filler's threepeat borders on the ridiculous.
