If Matchroom, Predator, WPA, and other pool organizations are unable to increase the money payouts to pool players, especially considering many events are overseas requiring living out of a suitcase for weeks at a time, some will gravitate towards putting their time and money into Chinese pocket billiards.
As is the case in most pool events today with $30,000 first-place prize monies, with only one or two exceptions when the Saudis are involved, one must win, place, or show frequently in order to break even. If one wins one event, they may be so stuck from the other events that they are still in the red as far as profit.
I do not fault Matchroom, Predator, WPA, and the others because they have expenses too and must create an ROI, unlike what happened with the failed IPT (International Pool Tour) model that came out of the gate with huge payouts, $30,000 to each Hall of Famer and a bye just to show up at the first event, King of the Hill in Orlando, FL before they hit their first ball.
A half million bucks for two Ko brothers to split will keep them planted on Chinese soil, and who can blame them?
