"roasted"
is this what kielwood/torrified maple looks like before making shafts?
or using it for other purposes?
obviously i am not a cuemaker or know much about wood
Yes. There are different levels of "roast" if you will, but that's what it looks like prior to turning round.

In my opinion, the medium roast, such as what's shown above, have the most chatoyance after finishing. The figure shimmers nicely with minimal effort. Compare this against regular curly maple where you need to dye/oil/sand for maximum effect.

Thank you for the reply👍

Wow - I Wish that I could fnid some of this anywhere. The only blank Ive been able to find is $150 for two blanks but $220 FOR SHIPPING !!!
220 for shipping? This is a domestic wood.

The punch line is that no matter how reliable the seller is there is a 50-50 chance you will encounter bark inclusions before you get your cut to final size. It's just the nature of that wood but by golly it's worth it!

Having said that if J2pac has some you will have good odds.

The picture I posted is the only one I have. Finding solid examples of this wood (Burl) isn't easy.
👍

Hi Everybody , I haven"t posted for a while but here are a few cues I did . Walnut burl that I got from a person in hudson ma. Nice spalted maple burl that I got from a retired person that owed a sawmill in pembroke N.H. Both cues I resin inpregnated with my own set up. last one is ambona burlwood I got like 15 years ago. Carbon fiber shafts I finished up from foam fiiled tubes. wood inserts at the joint end with matching ring work.
and ferrulles and tips
