Should I paint my GC4?

Should I paint my Gold Crown 4? I never really liked mahogany colored furniture. I love the look of the new GC7 in both white and black options, and the original white GC1. Woodworking was my main hobby from age 6 to 16, before I became a pool degenerate, so I can do a good job, and I have spray equipment.

The table is in really nice condition, it was always a home table, never in a pool hall. I'm the 3rd owner. It has a couple of dings in the aprons from prior moves, and the castings are still in good shape and not tarnished.

I just got it out of storage and into a new construction basement. I had the movers put it on a workbench that is the same height as the frame. I'll be doing the setup myself in a few months.

Thinking of painting the aprons and legs, or, leave it as-is and just play it. Considering a white, or a black, or maybe some sort of cool grey color. I wouldn't touch the formica, and prob wouldn't mess with the castings.

I've also vaguely considered wrapping the rails in some sort of matte black vinyl to make it look more modern, and also to not reflect as much light when the camera is on. That would cover the diamonds but I don't use them anyway. This part is just a brainstorm...

Thoughts? Any other colors? I'm legit colorblind, but I think I like cool colors more than warm colors. I have no idea yet if I'll finish the basement, but if so, Its dedicated to the pool table and I can make the walls and floor any color I like.

Could you paint it to look like a Diamond? JK

Great table and please share pics when done.

I ordered my table with light Maple rails and everything else Jet black.
I then made a revolving cue rack that matches the table.

You have a clean slate if you are painting, do something cool.

I like the idea of the wrap. Non-destructive and relatively easy to change back or go in a different direction. I am partial to the classic Brunswick white but the new black tables are good looking as well. Congrats on the new space!
If you paint it take your time and make it a show piece.......I love the mahogany. My favorite GC was White with corner ashtrays and gold cloth. I came close to having Blatt's Billiards build one but could not come up with a mechanic to set it up. Regardless have fun...nice project.

I have a Blue GC1 and would trade you even for the mahogany.
I’ve thought about painting my table, I’ve seen it done before and it comes out nice but it’s a lot of work for me, no skills.
Anyway, I just I focus on the top of the table.
For you, I wouldn’t change a thing. The mahogany table looks beautiful.

Was that a Diamond Professional? If I were to ever get one I think I'd do the same. Maple top and black frame.

I painted mine a light grey to match the fireplace.. looked beautiful.

I hate stained woods. I especially hate when someone strips a GC to the bare poplar/veneer and stains it. It never looks good, imo. The factories use pore fillers and other techniques that the DIY does not do. You can tell when a DIY stained a GC, the wood grain looks completely wrong.

Ok ok report me… you do not the MiniWaxka

Laziness is a trait of mine! haha. I'm half considering not even putting it together. The pool hall is a 5min drive from my new house and they have a daily lunch special. I had to get it out of storage so I could stop paying the storage rent.
I have a pool hall minutes from me too, But i play mostly at home. I'm too damn lazy to pack everything up into my case. HAHA.

I had a storage place for years. Back in 2019 was my last time i had one. I was paying $180 per month for a 10x10. They were advertising it at $120 I call the office and question them about it and the cowards don't answer the phone or respond to calls. And when i went to the office the coward manager was never there.

But like magic every 6 months they raised the rate less then 30 days notice.

Yeah, that happened to me. I called them when I needed to move all of my apartment belongings (including the GC) into storage for about 6 months while a new house was being built. I asked what would my rate be if I commit to 6 months up front. They gave me a price was I think $110 per month. It stayed for 3 months. Month 4 it went up to $200. I called and asked what happened. They said I must have misunderstood the deal. The house finished last month and I made sure to get out of that storage unit asap.
