30 years ago farmers in southern Minnesota liked to have their corn planted by the 1st week of May.6 weeks earlier than that would be mid to late March. I don't see anyone planting corn in southern Minnesota in March.
 
I believe in my area crop insurance will not cover corn planted before April 21st. Threat of killing frost is the reason.

Now to make this pool related farmers are planting corn at the time of the state tournament. However they do have time for fishing at ice out and can brag about their catches around the barbox .
