Smoke eaters in pool halls - owner perspectives

This is a bit non-pool related, but I know tons of the pool rooms had smoke eaters on the celings before the smoking laws changed over the past 20 years.

I have a new house and a smoker just moved in and smokes outside. It gets into the new house. I've talked with the neighbor trying to come up with a solution for both of us. He moved smoking spots and that has helped slightly. He is willing to try smoking in front of some sort of air filter/purifier.

Did those smoke eaters do anything? I still came home smelling like an ash tray in those smoking years, but that was with a room full of smokers. What were the brands? Were there any portable setups for a home? Does any pool hall owner have a good recommendation for home use? Thanks!

Simple solution- If this is your house, I would tell this tenant they cannot smoke on your property, inside or outside. Of course that would need to be stated in the lease agreement.

It’s a brand new townhouse. Just built. 5 units long. I own the end unit. Neighbor owns the unit next to me. Both of us are homeowners and trying to enjoy our purchased property.
 
put a big fan outside facing his place and turn it on whenever you are home or let it run all day long. or a motion detector.

but thats why i would never live in a condo or town house. if i had to it, would be where no smoking was enforced.
if you share a wall with him the stink will eventually come your way through that.

at least he is a little accommodating. but his smoke goes into your space so he isnt so nice. and you have every right not to have it go there.
and should do whatever it takes to stop it and not worry about his feelings.
 
I can vouch for these. Rather than having him smoke into it, you should put it in your home. I have run them and tested the air with an AQI meter(not the one built into it, not accurate). These will drive the AQI down to single digits in a sized space they are rated for. You will also drastically reduce dust. Cigarettes are my biggest pet peeve. I cant stand being around cigarette smoke, or anyone that smokes being near me. He should do it outside, max distance away from you.

How about shoving the cigarette up their ass. I was a 2-3 packer for a long stretch and stopped in 1989..... I cannot stand it. A guy at our clubhouse... I offered him $100 to stop for a few days and go from there. He declined. Sorry for the off subject but to any readers... Quit quit and quit ...do not stop trying to quit.

I smoked in the late ‘70s through the early ‘80s. Quit cold turkey in ‘85. Lit up on 9/11 but only took a drag before throwing the cigarette away. Haven’t smoked since…26 years…or 40 years not counting the one drag on 9/11.

I quit the game to avoid second hand cigarette smoke, and the toxic smell. I figure if a person is too week to stop, they’re not worth associating with. Life is so much more enjoyable minus cigarette smoke.

My brother died from lung cancer. Directly related. Congrats for stopping.. for taking control of yourself
 
While the Corner Pocket was open near my house I played on the 9' tables that their smoke eater was in the center of , yes it worked to a degree but I could still smell a smoke when I returned home .
I worked in a shop that had a chain smoker for a owner and they had a smoke eater on a shelf about 8' off of the ground that worked rather well .I don't remember the brand name , sorry .
