$1.5M first place prize for Chinese tournament next week

Just saw this flyer posted by the Duya Legends Tour. It's a golden nine tournament (basically 9 ball on Chinese tables). The headline is the first place prize of ~$1.5M USD, which is about 8x what you'd get for winning the World 9-ball Championship.

A few things that stand out
  • A sponsor in the shape of a niche liquor company. It's not a particularly mainstream brand, so I'm surprised they were able to create such a big prize fund
  • No details on payout structure and what other places get edit: updated with a new poster that shows the structure
  • Top heavy payout of course, but still great by most standards. Runner up gets $220k, 8th place gets $22k, 128th place gets $1.5k
  • Super late notice for an international announcement - one week notice for a tournament with multi-million prize fund?

Ah, update: looks like this tournament was announced months ago, but the updated prize pool was only announced today.

Also, as per usual, the entry is only ~$150 USD and accommodations are provided. So the main financial cost is really just ponying up for the flight.

Soooo... are we talking 2000 entries?
 
This is great. For what it's worth, I've tended to favor top heavy payouts, even though this may be a bit over the top. Make winning really special. To put the prize money in perspective, only seven pool players have career earnings that exceed the $1,500,000 first prize on offer here.

savers are only as good as the word of whom you made them with.

unless the t.d. agrees to split the money up as they want other than as advertised then it works.
how many pool players would you want to have a handshake deal with to hand over say 100k to if you won, or lost and expected him to pay you.

Considering that there may be a lot more money bet on the outcome of the final match than the tournament prizes, I don't think the tournament organizer would want any hint of a financial arrangement between the two players. For that matter, I don't think the players would like for any such rumor to get around.

And there is the tax problem.
 
the tax problem is nil as the one who gives away the money just files a 5754 form making it like a partnership agreement and he owes the filing of the taxes.
its done often when deals are made at a final table in many poker tournaments. the t.d. gives out to each what was agreed upon and ditto with the tax forms or they do it themselves for the taxes. then they play it out for show or for a small amount.
may not work for pool though.

Ummm. The tournament is in China. Does the CCP also have a form 5754?

they've already had lil ko vs big ko in one duya event.. and if chua plays aranas, would you bet on that? savers are inevitable with this big gap in prize money
