What’s going on in Poland?

No just bringing up an important point. Many things will be different between 7,9,10 fussers. Basic shotmaking won't be.

If you take the time to shoot ALL your practice on a 7'er with complete lines out to infinity, the transitions to bigger tables will be speed and the angles "relaxing" over the size increase. Not much to deal with for a pool player. Note respective experts will still have the idiosyncrasies wired and expertise at one size may not insure expertise in another. Just saying 7' only doesn't have to be death.
A long shot on a 7ft table is not that long on 9ft…
Practicing on bigger tables, always makes shot making easier on the smaller tables, dealing with clusters is a different thing, but if you play 9 or 10 ball, it’s a non issue

Obviously. I'm saying the lines go the same regardless of table size. Therefore play the small table like it's the bigger two. Then you only have a little bit of catch up when the balls are further apart than the small table. It's largely a function of how you centralize your method and how conscientiously you apply yourself. No excuses.

One thing that I believe was mentioned in this thread is that there are no Americans playing in Austria this week. I did look and confirmed that I don't see any American flags.

Then I wondered, how high would you have to finish to guarantee that it is a profitable trip, and is the risk worth it? Given the high costs to travel today, I think you would have to finish in the top four. 5th-8th is a hard maybe, but doubtful. Unless a player's sponsors are directly funding the travel costs, which in pool is doubtful, I'm not sure which Americans would see this trip as a good business decision.

Unless I'm missing something, and I very well could be.

Champion $37,500
2nd $17,500
3rd-4th $8,750
5th-8th $4,375
9th-16th $2,190
17th-32nd $1,095

Can’t win if you don’t go.
If you don’t think you can win, quit pro pool

Travel from the US and accommodation is going to be about $2200, so you can break even placing 9-16 but you're not making money. Expenses for locals are going to be about half that. That means that $1000 travel costs from a sponsor would put an American on about the same financial footing as a European for this tournament. 96 players are entered.

A smart American player would secure a clinic at a nearby pool club and cover his expenses.
But to do that he would have to be known, not entering international events, will leave them unknown and broke…
There are always solutions.
But if the top 5 American players don’t think they have a chance to win, what would the rest think?
