Phoenix Open - August 18-22

Fedor has failed for Team USA in the Mosconi Cup.

He's had enough chances and it's time to try something new.

Fedor's fan boys might not like it, but Tyler, Bergman and Sky are all better options for November.
What has Woodward done? Consider him for past Mosconi performances, sure, but he has skipped all but two WNT events this year. He wasn’t much good in either.

He is living on past Mosconi glory. He contributed to 19% of U.S. wins last year to 16% for Fedor. He was a terrible captain for two years and the team sucked.

If I am picking between Woodward, Fedor and Bergman for two wild cards, I see the case for Woodward. But I think he is coasting on rep and had not been committed to the WNT for the last two years. Perhaps he has a real job, and I would get that, but Bergman is playing more events and he’s tried harder than Sky to make the team. He really wants to be on the team. Does Sky? He doesn’t act like it.

I ultimately don’t care why Woodward has been scarce. A message has to be sent to players who don’t commit.

It’s amazing what a couple motivated people and Claude can accomplish nowadays. Too bad incumbents like Matchroom don’t take notice, or don’t care.

Smart people learn from successful people do, dump people fail because they are not smart enough to copy what successful do.

Master class effort from Szolnocki in crushing Biado 11-4. Oliver really has great fundamentals --- boy does he stay down on his shot!

Szolnicki and Pecelj both played solid matches. They belong in the finals. I miss the old Carlo, smooth and confident. He's become like so many lesser pros, all herky jerky, up and down, looking at shots from every angle. UGH!

Yapp got weak toward the end. Missed an easy cut on the seven that would have tied the match at 7-7. That spelled doom for him.

The Euros are really showing up well out here in the desert. It does not bode well for the U.S. in the MC. Shane can't fade all these guys and Fedor has been inconsistent. As for the rest of the team good luck. My prediction is another cakewalk for Team Euro. Sorry Stu

Hey, no matter who wins, I'll have a grand old time at the Mosconi. Emily calls it the biggest party in pool and she's darn right.

Pecelj was a flat-out killer in the last five racks. He hit some unbelievable shots and played with Filler or SVB-like confidence. It’s been a break out year for Szolnoki, but if I were a betting man (I’m not), I couldn’t go against Pecelj right now. He’s been a man transformed.

I just hope for a great match from two youngish players who are in peak form.

Boyes was talking about stats on the broadcast and seemed to imply more was coming. We’ll see. Want me to check WNT or Matchroom more? Let me check player stats, rack differentials, won-loss records, head to head records, etc. WNT and Predator sick on stats.

correct, my mistake, still a more solid run than SVB in the last 3 events
He went out in the 64th round in Florida, worst Shane did was 32nd in Phoenix. If he wins Phoenix, then it would be pretty much a toss up. But the fact that he beat Shane in Yuma does give him a leg up. Although Phoenix was smaller than Florida and not technically a major while Florida and Yuma were.
