Thought patterns ...

I'm just taking a shot in the dark here. Have you ever thought about the earbud/music option. I've never done it, never will, I need to hear the ball contact, etc. And I think the main reason people use it is to block out noise/distraction. Who knows, might help.
Sans that, I like WobblyStrokes thought. Or, if you have to think of something, think of the microdot on the CB you're trying to hit.

Or go with the girl in post 13 but that may lead to miscues.
There's plenty of cues from that miss. You'll always know where dead in front is though.

Ooh, microdot. 🤤

Practice more 14.1/ straight pool. Learn to do all your thinking Standing Up. Once Your Pre Shot Routine is done and you are down on the shot no more thinking is necessary . Execute the shot rinse and repeat Learn Your Own Rythym IMHO Hope this helps you

the final time, what do YOU think about?
"ME AND Mommy are One." Is a favorite.
"Patty Cake THIS!!" If they have passed me off. 😉 The behind story was my boxing class for a grade fight. After my opponent offered patty cake agreed I demonstrated my variety of pattycake. We both got an A with mine getting the plus. 😉

If I am counting anything while in competition, I ain't got my mind right.
My focus on the task at hand is all consuming.
A favorite story is on Jim Ward playing in the White Spot weekend 9 ball event. On Saturdays first round a stripper was hired for a birthday dance at the pool table adjacent the table Jim was running out on. At the completion, Jim was surprised that his opponent didn't step up to rack. That's when he noticed the stroper with A Boom Box.....
What a Rock, I am Uber proud of a second place behind Jim in a 2 day event.

I'm in the same boat. Chronic over thinker at the table. I can never shut it down and it frustrates the crap out of me. Almost always think negative thoughts, which I know is terrible. Not much helps. Go with Black Balls suggestion.
