watching the remainder of the match...wow those racks were loose. Varner snaps the 9 twice in a row. Each time the 9 is moving right off the break. The first time it then gets kicked into the side, and the second time it just goes straight into the corner pocket with nothing touching it.

I guess you're right - I assumed the object ball was under the corner of the rack (like the other two OBs), but after looking again I see it's just far enough away to leave room for the CB to stop under the corner - I can see it stop without rolling forward, now that I look for that. I wonder if the OB position needs to be "cheated" like that (no offense, Jay).

I'm guessing, though by my own admission, I'm not as savvy about shots as most. A stun shot? Hit cue ball in center.

If I remember correctly both Frank McGowan George Frank were at this tournament .
It was the maiden voyage for the oak pool tables and the logo in the middle of the table was to catch the eye of the viewer but I believe it wasn't very popular with the players as it was a high spot so to speak on the cloth .

Both George and Frank received a ear full because of the logo there .
George is still going down to the Casino every morning which was better known as the Broadwater Corner Pocket the flagship of his pool rooms .

I could try it with my Delta rack but I think it would be cheating since there is a big hole in each corner to hold balls in place.

I don't get down to Billings as often as I once did , but I'll give it a try , so where did you and Frank like to go fishing at ?
Sadly George has a bit of Alzheimer's so he may not remember me either , but it's worth a try .

Thank you. Got quiet after I asked them to show me. I can visualize them practicing just to do it once. Not so easy after all.

below yellowtail dam where the big horn comes out. it was fantastic trout fishing after the indians first let it be open to the public.

actually talked more about fishing then went. he really wasn't gregarious. but interested in hunting up on the highline where i went all the time.
did go or meet a few times. he wondered about back east where he left and what was going on. i didnt know too much about the straight pool crowd.. all i knew from there and billings was he played so slow no one wanted to gamble with him. and for good reason as well for his top shooting.

Yes back in those days the fishing was good , now its almost full contact fishing so to speak since its been discovered !

Seeing 50 + boats per trip on the upper end of the river is common , I know a couple of guides who still take people fishing on the horn .

When I lived down there I preferred fishing further down stream Lind's access to the big horn back then wasn't to bad then but I quit showing people what fly I was using and wouldn't open NY fly box in front of them ha ha .

The best finals I’ve ever seen in my life was between Allen Hopkins and George “Ginky” San Souci at the 2005 Ocean State Championship at Snooker's (the old Snooker's) in Providence, Rhode Island. Oh, man, Regina's homemade meatballs at Snooker's. Yum!

It came down to the break in the finals. Neither one of them missed a ball. I have never seen two players shoot with such precision in a finals match. It was incredible. To this day, I still remember it as the best finals I’ve ever seen.

And it proves something about pool. It doesn’t matter how you stroke a ball as long as you pocket balls. What works for one player may not work for another. There’s no single “right” way to play.

Allen Hopkins was incredibly strong in his prime and was still strong even after retiring. By the time he played Ginky in this match, he was well past his prime, but he still loved competing. And that old champion was still in there.

What a match! What a memory! Ginky wins, Allen comes second, and Joe Tucker was third.
