this cue could be anything. seriously doubt Bill ever touched it.

I haven’t really been on the forum much for a number of years and if I recall correctly, some of the old guard died or left and the new folks are not as informed.

billy did use a 18 pin in his very early years. but also didnt put a jw on his cues. maybe on his cheap ones.
and same with when they were partners. absolutely none of the ones i had had a maker marking.
and the one i still have bill made for me in 1970 with a hoppe ring had no markings but has the big pin.
perhaps when they made them for a player he didnt. and for sale in a store or room did. i dont know .

The way that insert is finished...or rather relatively not finished is kind of a tell. I don't know any "good" makers that have an insert looking like that. With that slightly conical shape it might be compression fitting. Usually I think you want a wood compression, not the brass insert itself though. Did you screw it together?

That does look like it might be an Ivory ferrule.

Interesting weight bolt looks like it was machined down after installation? No hex or slot for purchase in the case of tightening or removal.

Pawn shop background? No further pics? I am assuming you didn't grab it?

The Delrin butt cap and joint ring style evoke several good makers but nothing specific comes together with the rest of it, at least for me.

Maybe someone else knows.

Side note, whoever zip tied it needs a good smack on the head.

Nice looking wood. Only fair finish. Nice low cost production cue. If it feels good keep it. If not may be worth 250 tops. 99% sure it's not a Stroud. That's my opinion anyway.

I foolishly did not take a pic of the entire cue. Appears to be goncalo alves or tulipwood, to me. 5/18x 18 pin.

Looks more like Olive-wood IMO.

I'm sure enough to bet someone else's money on it.

Not the greatest pic, but you can see the wood for a compression fit around the pilot, though it just looks like a dark ring.

I just went through and checked my other cues with 5/16x18 pins and non have flat crest, they all have a sharp crest.

Also, which surprised me, is the shaft is 13.5mm, which is very unlike a production cue. I think the last 13.5mm shaft I had was an old stitch ring Runde Schon shaft.

I based my opinion on the overall look of the cue. I seriously doubt Billy ever let anything like that out of his shop. The phoney logo is very telling too.

I’m pretty sure the logo/buttcap is from a repair. It has definitely been refinished. Whatever it is, it hits great, feels more refined than my old palmers, closer to an old Dale Patten and early an Schon I had years ago.

It’s a construction bolt as the butt cap fell right off when I was able to unscrew it.

Upon further inspection, there is another JWW on the other side of the buttcap. Pretty shoddy repair work.

Many production cues used black linen phenolic, including Taiwan Kao cues.

No, it's a Frankenstein cue, with a mismash of changes and repairs.
