In the Boise area there's a pretty good mix of 8/9/10 ball tournaments. Usually, a Monday might be for 9B and Thursday would be for 8B, etc. However, most of the money matches are rotation games.
 
I've always wondered, does anyone know what snooker players and 9 ball players across Europe think of the english/blackball 8 ball players? Are they looked down upon like us here in north america look down on barbox players?

7 times world snooker champion Stephen Hendry considers all pool games (UK pool, 9b, Heyball) to be “Mickey Mouse” games. He says it repeatedly on his popular YouTube channel.

Take what you make and you will see better matches. Open table after the break makes the game a joke for the top players.

The runouts are so easy that even average pattern players rarely run into any trouble. It's equally true that after a dry break, the incoming player will run out off most lays of the table.

Awfully few racks have any back and forth, which makes 8ball on a nine-footer a far too one-dimensional game, even at Fargo 750 level, let alone top pro level. Of course, played on a barbox (7 x 3 1/2) or an English 8ball table (often 3 x 6), the game of 8ball is far more interesting, requiring breakouts and tactical exchanges.

OK, watching the Filler match. Since when does a ball frozen to the rail, NOT have to contact a DIFFERENT rail after contact in order to be a good hit? They were saying that since the frozen ball left the rail, then contacted another ball, the re-contacted same rail, that it was a good hit.

Under WPA rules no. They don’t have a concept of “dead rail”. Under some league rules yes. But under BCA PL rules, while they do have a dead rail concept, what happened here wasn’t a foul either, because the 2b hit a different OB and returned to the rail.

I just came across this in the rules looking for something else this week. If it leaves the rail, hits another ball, and then returns to the same rail, it's a good hit. If it didn't hit another ball, its a foul.

I think you were looking at the BCA PL rules. There is no dead rail under the WPA rules.

WPA

2.7 DRIVEN TO A RAIL
A ball is said to be driven to a rail if it is not touching that rail and then touches that rail. A ball touching a rail at the start of a shot (said to be “frozen” to the rail) is not considered driven to that rail unless it leaves the rail and returns. A ball that is pocketed or driven off the table is also considered to have been driven to a rail. A ball is assumed not to be frozen to any rail unless it is declared frozen by the referee, the shooter, or the opponent. See also Regulation 26, Calling Frozen Balls.

So under WPA rules all it has to do is leave the rail and come back.

Under the BCAPL rules, it has to leave the rail, hit a different rail or leave the rail, hit a different OB (not the CB) and return to the rail.
