2026 WPA Predator Men's World 10 Ball Saigon

Truthfully 8 ball is relatively meaningless in the pool world, unless you’re in the APA or out on a date night. I always found it funny 8 ball is what people think pool is, yet it’s the least played game amongst true players.
Were you around (or even alive) during the IPT days? The IPT tournaments (playing 8-ball) were the most enjoyable tournaments I've ever followed/watched (online). To me, there is nothing is more enjoyable than watching Efren weave through a complicated rack of 8-ball.

I enjoyed watching the IPT events as well and I went to all but the battle of the sexes before the King of the Hill. But as a good competition, the game was too easy. I remember one match -- Marlon Manalo was in it, but I don't remember who his opponent was -- that was a race to 13 and it went hill-hill, so 25 games were played. In those 25 games, all but one finished in a single inning. The breaker won from the break, or he missed and the opponent ran out, except for one rack.

I hear you. But considering that Efren won two of them and Hohmann won the other, I don't think the format was too easy. I think the round robin format definitely helped make the "Law of large numbers" come more into play.

Yes, but for an attendee the IPT events were not as good. I attended IPT Las Vegas at the Venetian in 2006. I'd guess that over twenty tables were roped off so that there was nowhere to get a good view of anything but the few tables on the perimeter. From a fan's point of view, the planning of the competitive space lacked insight on the part of the event producers. Of course, as so many of pool's insiders from back then have noted, the IPT shunned the advice of those offering it, including top event producers of that period and every governing body of the sport.

8ball is America's game and will always be my favorite
Good post.

You're right, of course, and it's equally true that league pool played on bar tables is America's game. People enjoy it and there is no denying that this kind of pool, to a large extent, IS pool in America. I think it's great that you and millions of others enjoy it and I hope it brings you more and more years of recreation and joy.

That said, eight ball played on a nine-footer is a very different game and some, but not all of us, on the forum, feel that at the game's highest level, because the runouts are so easy, it is not much more than a breaking contest that can be a bit boring to watch compared to some of the other disciplines within pool.

What's interesting is she and some other women play better against male opponents. Seen that more than once.

I don't watch the women pros much so can't comment on that. One thing I have noticed though in the amateur ranks (good players) is that it's not unusual for men to play subpar against women they should beat.
It's happened many times against Samantha Easton in the Under 650 and similar tournaments back when she was a high 500/low 600 fargo.

I'm getting pretty psyched about Kaci vs Filler in the semis. Here's how I see it.

I Strength of Play

A. If one of them brings their "A" game and the other brings their "B" game
The player bringing their "A game prevails here. Each can dominate the other on the right day.

B. If both bring their "A" game
I
think Kaci, because of his incredible break, has a slightly higher ceiling than Filler, so I think he wins if he's at the absolute top of his game.

C. If both bring their "B" game
Filler is better at defense, kicking and is more creative in his use of two-way shots than Kaci. I'd say they are even at jumps and at push-out strategy. Filler is a slightly better runner of the table. If nobody is dominating and both players get a lot of table time, I think these advantages will mean Josh wins.

II Type of Match

A. Offense Oriented
If the match is offense oriented, Kaci needs to outbreak Filler, as Filler runs the table more consistently than Kaci.

B. Tactically Oriented
Filler's advantage in the tactical portion of the game is substantial, and I can't imagine Kaci outplaying him in this part of the game.

C. An Even Mix of Tactical Play and Total Offense
In this scenario, things should stay close all the way to the end..

Summary

I have no idea who will win this, but I cannot wait to watch at 1:00 AM New York time.

Wow. So I get from this that you consider Kaci the better player?- if both have A game Kaci wins.
Not sure I agree with that since most people (I think you included) consider Filler to be the best player in the world .

Maybe currently and based on results and performance in this tournament Kaci may have the edge due to breaking but can’t agree that both bringing A games has kaci winning

Filler is the better player, and has a more complete skill set than Kaci, but Kaci possesses a 10ball break that has already enabled him to win the World 10ball twice. Josh would be the clear favorite in any other game, but given Kaci's break and his current form, we know he has a gear that we've rarely ever seen at 10ball. I think this match is almost dead even on paper, almost impossible to call. I might call Josh a 6/5 favorite, but that's all.

Take Sigel vs Strickland. Mike was the better player, but Earl's top gear was higher than Mike's top gear. Like Earl, Kaci can sometimes overpower the table. I think we have a similar situation here. It was Sigel who accumulated more titles than Earl, but on his very best day, Earl was known to school even guys like Sigel, Hall, Varner, Bustamante and Archer from time to time.

Should be a good one.

Sjm specifically referred to Kaci’s 10 ball break. It’s perhaps the best in the world and notably better than Filler’s. It’s a huge weapon, and once he dialed it in, Kaci was able to come back and beat Capito with a bunch of break and runs.

Kaci doesn’t have much of a breaking advantage in 9 ball, if he has one at all.

When Kaci was making that comeback against Capito, he had 4 break and runs in a row like he was playing template rack 9 ball (if I remember correctly).

Usually making multiple balls on each break.

If I had money on Filler, I would be praying for the long haired male ref who worked the Shaw vs Shane match and not the ref who gave all those good racks in the Kaci vs Capito match.

I cannot believe he came back. Talk about having your back against the wall. One of the commentators made the statement that Kaci needed to realize he wasn’t down 11-6 in a race to 12, but down 2-1 in a best of 5.

At that point, Capito needed one rack and Kaci was surveying the table. I decided to get my rear in gear and start my business for the day; guess that was a mistake.
