2026 WPBA Borderline Brunswick/Pechauer Invitational

hard to imagine this won't be won by either Tkach or Fefilova-Styer.

You'd be surprised. Veronique, Sofia, Ashley, and Caroline Pao all have a chance. There's also a chance that Rachel Walters (who lost to Veronique in the finals back in May of this year) or Jordan Helfery make it deep. All it takes is one slip and either Tkach or Styer go down. This is why I mainly watch the women, there's no one dominant player who runs rack after rack and wins, lots of back and forth.

Yowser, only two players in the field are from outside North America (of course, that counts Tkach and Fefilova-Styer as American). Still, it's a very weak field, but that's understandable in the wake of two women's majors back-to-back in the last two weeks in Asia. Kudos to Tkach and Fefilova-Styer for finding the energy to play this week.

It's a good opportunity for some of the second-tier pros to make a statement. Wish all of these ladies the best of luck. May the best woman win!

Pao? What you smoking?

Nah, no real reason to tune in until Saturday night for the 6:00 round. Though I wouldn't mind catching some Meyman before then.

I think some of it may be money added is lower at this one than the rest.

Probably so, but you can't discount the battle fatigue issue here. The top women have been very busy in Asia over the past two weeks.

I still think this might be an interesting event, as at least one of the lesser players will likely post a top five finish or better.

There's a pretty big hit and miss when it comes to the high level players, lots of them didn't show for this event. I'm surprised that Zlateva didn't make it, but as you mentioned, at this stage they've played a lot of pool and are taking a rest.

Everyone you named are still big underdogs against Tkach and Styer. They may not run rack after rack, but they know how to dominate and they know how to grind when necessary. Some of the other women only have 1 of those qualities, or none.

But wake me up when Shanelle Loraine is on the tv table.

Actually, Styer just won her match and Rachel Walters is up 7-1, those two will be matching up, that will be a good match to watch.

@iusedtoberich

This match should be streamed, it's at 8PM Mountain time, table 14, which is the table Amy Beauchamp (Champs) and Ashley Rice are streaming on now.

EDIT: posted the wrong match, it's actually Jordan Helfery and Hayleigh Marion on table 14. Amy and Ashley are on 15, so those must be the only two streaming tables on YouTube.

Jordan Helfrey is my dark horse pick. She's another ypung player experiencing Fargo-lag. She's defnitely not at the level of Tkach or Styer, but she's as good as anyone else in the field.

Hayliegh Marion is keeping up with her right now, been going back and forth, it's 4-3.

Some other matches of note:

Sofia is up 6-0 against Lauren Sorrow (don't know her)
Ashley Rice is up 4-1 against Amy Beauchamp, they're close in FR (590'sh to 611 respectively) but this surprises me. Amy's not on her A game right now.
Shanelle Loraine is up 3-1 against Renita Ritchie (never heard of her)
Brianna Miller is tied 4-4 with Michell Monk.

Oh, and WPBA and Borderline Billiards each have one table streaming on YouTube.

I overlooked that Sofia was playing. Good to see she still has time to play while in culinary school.

Jordan isn't at Sofia's level, yet, either, but she's definitely getting up there.

Sofia's the dark horse here. It will be a big surprise if neither Kristina nor Margaret wins the title.

A 100 point Fargo difference is enormous, and the lesser player will win a race to nine only about one eighth of the time. Hence, anybody but the top three is a huge longshot.

Agreed that Helfery is a promising up and comer.
