2026 WPBA Borderline Brunswick/Pechauer Invitational

Miller and Mast are on to the next round. Despite the win, Brianna did not play well and a similar effort vs Sofia is unlikely to be enough.

Down to four and everyone left will cash for at least $3,300. Nice paydays here.

Not sure about that, if Sofia plays like she just played against Kaylee, Briana could have a chance.

At this point, if I had to make a line on the likelihood of neither Margaret nor Krisitna winning this, I'd say it's a 30/1 shot.

I think in the end it's going to match up to the rankings - Tkach wins, Styer gets second, Mast gets 3rd, Briana gets 4th (she's ranked 6th here). It's possible Briana beats Sofia but I don't think she'll beat the loser of Tkach/Styer. Sofia simply hasn't played that much and she's not in peak form. I believe the last tournament she played was the Ultimate Pool, could be wrong on that though.

Savannah was a guest commentator for the finals. She mentioned intending to go to college. She was trying to find a school that could accommodate her travel schedule. Looks like another potential loss for women's pool in the US.

She might slow down during college but I don't think she intends to quit.

It's hard to realize one's full potential at an endeavor with split attention. Sofia, for example, already looks a bit rusty. If Savannah does go to college she will almost assuredly not be the player she could be.
I agree 100%. College means less practice time and less tournaments entered. It will probably be next to impossible for these young ladies to stay in the stroke while going to college. Especially the kind of stroke it takes to beat the best in the world. I hate it for American women’s pool because they are the best that we have. But I also applaud their decision to go to college. If I was their parent it’s what I would like them to do.

Maybe. Probably. Also probably won’t be the college experience she might have if she focused on school. Can’t judge it without knowing her or her long term goals. She could go on a 5-6 year plan like a lot of undergrads and come out with a lot of pool playing and a degree. But depends on where she goes and what she wants out of college.

I wasted no time at bars or pool halls in college though. 😉

Yowser, only two players in the field are from outside North America (of course, that counts Tkach and Fefilova-Styer as American). Still, it's a very weak field, but that's understandable in the wake of two women's majors back-to-back in the last two weeks in Asia. Kudos to Tkach and Fefilova-Styer for finding the energy to play this week.

It's a good opportunity for some of the second-tier pros to make a statement. Wish all of these ladies the best of luck. May the best woman win!
weakest field in a wpba event since 2022. the field strength has been slowly declining

margaret has the strongest schedule in the event and still went undefeated, things looking up for her

This is a bit of a random observation, but it is a sign of the times..

Top international players rarely come to an American-based WPBA event unless piggybacking (closeness in schedule to another American-based event) is in play. For example, in February, the Predator Women's Las Vegas Open was about a week after the WPBA Players event in Ft Lauderhill, Florida, and b) the Predator Women's PBS St Louis event in early April was shortly followed by the WPBA US Open in mid-April. In general, WPBA events that stand alone in the schedule rarely get an elite field. It's something that WPBA event producers might want to pay more attention to as the number of women's events is growing. When the top internationals don't come, WPBA fields can be quite weak.

Men's pool is a little further along in scheduling things in a way that helps to improve field quality. Men's event producers are now bunching events in a way that takes some of the burden off players who are trying to manage their expenses, thereby improving attendance of the top international players.
