2026 World Pool Championship status

One of the biggest faults of WNT and Frazer, imo, is how little they communicate publicly. Case in point is the status of the now-delayed World Pool Championship.

Well, Emily always drops nuggets of info on finals day of big events. She finally said something about the WPC in the prematch interview.

"We also know there is a World Pool Championship that needs to come along. I know players are wanting that and a million dollar prize fund. It’s all coming. Everyone just needs a little bit of patience. We are getting there."

Here are Frazer's extended remarks on Sunday. It's the best way to get any info whatsoever, it seems.

SEMI-FINAL COMMENTS

We hope that we will be coming back next year. We are just looking at some dates. But we will be partnering this with another Matchroom even alongside the West Coast.

It’s a bit tough coming from Florida over to Yuma. We’ve got to make it a little easier for everyone. We’’ll do something along the West Coast. Come here to Yuma. We’re coming back to Yuma. It’s just a case of when.

The World Pool Masters is making a return. Little bit of a tweak in the format to try to honor the rankings slightly. Seed a couple of players through. That’s obviously going to be in Chinese Tapei with our partners, with an open event as well.

FINALS COMMENTS

The next couple of years it is going to be completely different. Because there is going to be a full tour for the juniors to follow. For the main event.

You can pick and choose … it’s brand new events. And this might spark something else for us along the West Coast.

We’re going to come back to Yuma. This tournament has been great. The hotel has been really good and we’ve some good crowds in as well.

So listen, every tournament there is success, there is a positive there, and we are going to keep pushing.

We’ve got so much coming up. We’ve got the US Open live on ESPN. We’ve got the Mosconi Cup live on ESPN. It’s been years, even before my time, at Matchroom … we weren’t live on ESPN.

What a great shape that pool is in right now. There are more tournaments than there’s even been. There’s more professional events. There’s more for the juniors. There’s more prize money up for grabs. And also everyone’s got a choice.

So it’s just going to get better and better. Just got to be a little bit patient. Me and Karl were chatting about formats .. we were chatting through the World Pool Masters format.

We’re going to be back here in Yuma. It’s just about figuring out those dates.

Have there been any more hints about the WPC (nine ball) for 2026?

There is a spot reserved on the WPA calendar for a TBA nine ball event January 20-24, which overlaps the WNT invitational in Barcelona.

To me this indicates that WPC 9-ball is not organized by Matchroom anymore, if WPA dates are reliable and not some obsolete schedule they forgot to remove from the calendar.

the calendar doesn't show anything for what that event is on those dates. They had the same thing up there until recently for a week in November and December that were TBA that they have removed too.

Not to mention that is only 5 days and Matchroom would have a hard time doing their style of scheduling in 5 days for an event that size.

The 2025 World Championship was 128 players on 16 tables. With a few more tables and tighter scheduling, it could have been five. The phantom event could be anything.
