Luck as a skillset.

I call it C player safe.

If a player benefits from an outcome that wasn't intended or controlled by said player then that is complete luck & by no means skill.

I 100% believe in manifestation. I've seen it far too often in my life. Your attitude, intent, desire, and vision impacts all areas of your life to include pool. If someone saw where I came from and where I am now they would also say I'm "lucky", and I would not argue with them.

Just another of those strange things, if you can visualize doing something the chances of doing it are far better than if you can't even visualize the deed.

When I need to go three rails and more I often will track the intended path of the cue ball a few times, at least it's intended path. Generally it cooperates! I try to do this in real time as if my eyes are following a ball rolling along.

Off topic: I set a record outdoors one night, in a squall! The entire fifteen or twenty minutes between my relays I went to the clearing area where I could unholster my gun if I wanted to. I looked out a few feet and into some dark woods. I started moving through the draw and presentation. I tried to move right, then I tried to add the sound of the shots, then the smell of the powder burning. I thought what else could be added. Everything I could think of.

I dropped into the zone the last two stages, after deliberately planning to. I think the imaginary exercise and dry fire practice had a huge amount to do with it.

We can sit in our chair running balls until our opponent misses. I try to consider different run out patterns. Even if playing rotation there are generally options as to path and pocket. Why take a path may not be visible until two or three shots later.

I've never won a raffle of any kind in my life. I see people clean up - pool cues, golf clubs, guns, trips. It's a foreign concept to me.
It's funny, I've never won anything like that either. When I do get a wild hair and buy raffle or some other tics, I go into it knowing it's a donation to the cause.😂

I've always believed in intention.
A thought or wish put out there, over time gains form and shape returning to the intended. See it in your minds' eye and it will come back to you.
Put it out there!!!
Just one of the ways our awesome universe lends a hand to crazy folks like me.

If a player has made certain shots over the course of their playing time that when noted lead to better outcomes when missed...
I cheat the corner so as to know where that ball is headed if I miss the cheat. The outcome is in my favor.
Same with several other shots.
This happened to me time and time again over the course of years such that it's become part of my unconscious shot making ability. I get lucky.😉

I never considered myself lucky but many others did. We all have luck, good and bad. We can focus on the good luck or we can focus on the bad luck. Some are convinced they have the bad luck from hell! Over time it becomes true.

My grandmother always patronized church events. She bought food at the outdoor events but told us to check our sandwiches, she always got bugs in hers. She had bought six or eight sandwiches for the family and we grabbed at random. As everyone has guessed by now, everyone's was fine except Gramma's, it had a huge caterpillar in it. She was so used to it she just flicked it off and kept eating.

I have participated in hundreds of raffles. After half a lifetime I finally won something of small value, less than a hundred dollars. I knew someone that had won two new pick-up trucks about six or eight years apart. Wouldn't surprise me if we bumped into each other and I learned he had won one or two more.

Some people the gods smile on, some they laugh at!

She ever find out you were the one putting bugs in there??🤔😂

uncontrolled results are mostly some random amount.

you can call that good luck or bad luck and happens in everything.
its entropy, the 2nd law of thermodynamics applied loosely.

and so called luck is just that and is not weighted some way. it doesnt apply to a person just random chances.

luck cannot happen going forward just looking back.

few will believe that as it seems to be a built in flaw for most people.

I never would dream of it! Grandma was a saint and the matriarch of a huge italian family. She got respect from all that knew her. Didn't take long to know her sometimes either!

Aside from anything else, she was tight with the man upstairs. We are talking about what can't quite be explained in this thread, I have seen her do the impossible or at least highly improbable after a short prayer dozens of times. I think she prayed to about forty-three different saints and they all listened!

I have a whole bunch of flaws I'm trying to give away if anybody wants a few.😉

Here's the afraid stuff I was looking for.

First two returns:

Hu made an awesome comment in a thread I was attempting to derail. He talked about luck being part of a skillset developed over time playing a certain type of pool.
I've often thought about this and how to explain it. I find myself apologizing over and over for leaving someone bad. Can't count the times I've heard "you get the rolls dude."
I've come to the realization that for me, in my game, I get the rolls. It happens far too often for it to be luck.
I'm going to look into this further. There's always the chance I'm full of shit.😉
Anybody else see this in their game??
I thought about 2 way shots and leaving the CB bad should something miss, that It usually just works that way. Over time it becomes almost subconscious. I get "rolls" more than anybody I know but I spent a few years heavily focused on 2 way shots.

EDIT: It also amazes me that many people do not see caroms/billiards and the like. They think it's luck and I let them continue to believe it. There's tons of things you can do with 2 way shots... put the CB in a particular place and take a 15% 3 rail bank or something, 15% of the time it works, the other times the CB is safe anyway.

It's hard to explain but sometimes you just have a good feeling about a particular shot and it works. Protect the CB and roll the dice. 😄
