    Break Question

Watch Johnny Archer break. Argueably, the best break in the world. He changes his cue-ball starting location, and speed, to suit the table. Change is good.

Best break cue for the money?

I just want to voice an opinion about breaking: I think spending money on a break cue is a waste. Pretty much any cue will do, if you choose not to break with your playing cue. I recently broke my right hand. I can only shoot about 1/3 of my normal power, so my break has become a medium...

    chalk holders?

I think it has to do with the equipment. When they play, all the gear is in top shape. When we (as in, non-pros) play at a local tourney, the chalk usually sucks. Its had drinks spilled on it; someone has tried to burrow a hole through to the bottom; etc. Pro snooker players always carry...

    Best Hitting / Playable Cue

Damn Chris...sweet cue. I play with a longer cue also (59"), due to being 6'2" with long arms. Custom Pechauer. I've shot many cues, and I think I could get used to pretty much all of them, assuming they were reasonably solid and had a taper that I liked. My pechauer hits differently than...

    Best Canadian players

Gerry Watson still rolls through town every now and then. Lives in Cornwall? Travels around. But I rarely see him pick up a cue. What about Raymond Cruz?

    Question for tournament players

Just another opinion: Completely agree with most of what's been said, but especially: - start on time - keep the tournament equipment in good shape - speed up slow players, somehow - no smoke breaks in the middle of a match - get more money into the tournaments

9-Ball Gurus, How About This Tricky Rack?

Wouldn't you be in a bad spot if you missed though Kyle?

how do you get out from here?

    Clever. Risky, but clever. :)

Nose above cue or dominant eye when aiming?

I thought Bob Fancher said that the dominant eye theory is proven wrong. ??? I don't have the book with me, so I can't look it up right now. "pleasures of small motions" As a side note: Google search for "pleasures of small motions" yields some very interesting hits. Ha ha ha. cheers...

9-Ball Gurus, How About This Tricky Rack?

SJM: 1. I think he chose the right first shot, from the right angle. This way if he misses, he still ends up in a spot where he can shoot the 7. 2. Thinning the 7 is risky, considering where the 9 is. I don't think any pro would simply give up ball in hand...that's futile. They'd try...

OK, 9-Ball Gurus, How Would You Play This?

Yeah...I'm confused as to why Ginky would move that ball. You could end up moving it to more of the middle of the end rail, which would be much worse. Or the cueball could go off the 8, and hide along the side rail putting the 7 between it and the 2. But Ginky is a world class player...and...

OK, 9-Ball Gurus, How Would You Play This?

Ha ha...I should have read the whole thread before opening my yap. If Ginky says to move the 8...how can you argue with that? I liked the comment about straight pool players reducing risk, and 9-ballers just shooting them where they lie. I think that's bang on. Straight pool teaches you to...

OK, 9-Ball Gurus, How Would You Play This?

I'm not sure why people are saying to move the 8? I always thought that the way to play 9-ball, was to never move a ball unless it has to be. The 8 certainly isn't in trouble, and it is positioned so that it is easy to get shape on the 9.

OK, 9-Ball Gurus, How Would You Play This?

I'm with Fred on this one. The 3 is the key shot. It determines your angle on the 4. Wrong angle on the 4, and you have a tough time going from the 5 to the 6. Once you have a good angle on the 4, the rest of the run is straight forward. If you're afraid of the 7 to the 8, you probably...
