Jackie Gleason's Cue from The Hustler

I realize there is a bit of a moving target here. I plan on keeping the stock brass joint. Replacing the leather with linen...and maybe a slight turndown. Sent from my SCH-I405 using Tapatalk 2

Jackie Gleason's Cue from The Hustler

It's a beaut! Alas I don't have the scratch for it at the moment. Tim MBL

    Yes I have.

Jackie Gleason's Cue from The Hustler

Along those same lines. So I suppose to get more confirm, I'd like to see if I can get someone to measure their Rambow that is a typical type of the time, to determine the length of the wrap. Then the thickness at the end of the wrap...and the thickness at the very end of the butt. Tim MBL

Jackie Gleason's Cue from The Hustler

OK. I realize this is bordering on the absurd, but a quick comparison shows, that perhaps the wrap on the Gleason cue is actually shorter than the one on the Hoppe Professional...but the butt length is close to the same. And yes, I realize this is a crude comparison. But if I were to have this...

Jackie Gleason's Cue from The Hustler

Pics of the cue to get the treatment. Terry from Gunn cues will be helping with it. I'm just wanting to locate specs best I can before he starts on it.

Jackie Gleason's Cue from The Hustler

I tend to like older things...how they feel and function. I drive antique cars, play vintage guitars through vintage amps...play baseball using a 1940's glove...shave with a straight razor... I've owned a few cues, and hate to admit that the best playing I've done was with an old house cue...

Jackie Gleason's Cue from The Hustler

If you watch the movie the wrap is a white-ish color. TimmBL

Jackie Gleason's Cue from The Hustler

I am pretty sure you're right. Brunswick Titlist blank. I am using a Willie Hoppe Professional as my raw material. So the idea is to have it turned down some...mine is WAY thick, add an Irish linen wrap...and extend the butt beyond the wrap by a little...not sure how much yet. I found this...

Jackie Gleason's Cue from The Hustler

OK...so don't everyone pile on me at once. I'd like to see if anyone has some decent pics of Jackie Gleason's Rambow from the movie. The goal is to use my "not so good" example of a Willie Hoppe Professional cue, and convert it to be a close approximation. Kinda like that one if the pic...

    Hoppe Professional Recommendations

Currently it does have a brass joint. I'll leave that alone I think. So I should look to have the current fiber pieces and brass joint resurfaced and leveled, rather than having new fiber pieces/new plastic pieces put in? I suppose I'll need to get with Terry to see his assessment. Tim

    Hoppe Professional Recommendations

In looking at it closely, I don't think it's a crack. This cue has quite a few random marks all over it. I might check with Terry from Tampa's Gunn Cues affilliation to see what he might be able to do to help. I like the idea of a brass joint. I might just see if the collars can be replaced and...

    Hoppe Professional Recommendations

Ok so since this is not the best "preserved" piece, and it's gonna take a bit to make it playable, what all would be involved to "convert" it into what would be a close approximation of a Rambow? Were his cues thinner? What kind of money are we talking for such a thing? I think I should see if I...

    Hoppe Professional Recommendations

Oh I should mention that by adding a little make shift shim with some folded over paper like so: the cue rolls WAY better. Not perfect, but considerably better. Tim

    Hoppe Professional Recommendations

Ok so I have this Willie Hoppe Professional, it's not the greatest example. I would "like" to make it a player. So I had some preliminary ideas. Firstly, I like the idea of doing just enough of a conversion to make it like an early Rambow. The other thought was to keep it original and not mess...
