Playing Off the Rail with Tony Annigoni

I read the book many years ago. It was insightful as to the reality of life on a hustler’s road. Tony saying that the reality was actually much worse makes a lot of sense- given some knowledge of what that world can be in truth. In times throughout history since the 1920s - when there were...

Sales tax on a custom cue?

The key to all of this is how will you pay for your cue? Any form of payment other than cash itself is traceable to the cue maker- so there you go. Some forms of payment like Pay Pal F&F may not be reported to the IRS - but in a full income audit situation - the entire PAy Pal account of a...

1990 US Open Sigel & Varner - 5 Inch Pockets

He was great enough to never have to take a hard shot- I wish that I could do that - don't we all?

1990 US Open Sigel & Varner - 5 Inch Pockets

I went into rooms in the 1970s- rooms on their last legs from the bygone era---rooms that were original as mainly and/or exclusively 10 foot tables - such as McGirr's in NYC. I never saw tables in a room with 4 1/2 inch pockets on the older, existing 10 footers. I have seen literally hundreds...

1990 US Open Sigel & Varner - 5 Inch Pockets

When I say that older great players could still be great today under tougher pocket sizes- I think that we all should understand that their mechanics would certainly need to be dialed in to a higher accuracy standard. The assumption that I have is that whatever made those guys champions years...

1990 US Open Sigel & Varner - 5 Inch Pockets

Standard for Brunswick factory pockets on all tables mfg. from day one over 150 years ago has always been 4 7/8 corner minimums - they could be found up to 5 1/8 corners and that was what everybody played on as standard until Diamond pro cuts. Anything less in pocket size before...

Things I Don't Understand at the Pool Room

What drills are best to get that smooth stroke like Buddy Hall , or Chris Melling?

There have also been many down the years who say that a stroke should be developed on looser pockets and adapted to tighter pockets. I only recommend trying to fix a broken stroke on tight pockets if you have visual feedback or on site coaching otherwise you will end up choking your stroke...

What drills are best to get that smooth stroke like Buddy Hall , or Chris Melling?

If you think or know that your stroke needs a lot of improvement, then most would need either a strong coach to watch and correct, or constant personal video taping of their stroke to actually see the areas where the stroke is lacking and then constant review of the tapes to track improvement...

    Butt Protection

Any cue played with on a regular basis may develop some form of degradation from it's original new state - that's life with everything. You want a perfect cue- buy one and then never touch it again- just display it in glass or case it for life .

Why are there so few black pro players..?

Actually there really are not that many true American pro players of any race. All the Asian countries contribute a big % of true pro players and European pro players come from countries with low black population percentages —- If pool in America was popular enough to create a much higher...

    Brunswick Pool Cue

I believe this to be a Hiolle cue made for the French market in conjunction with Brunswick - trademark Hiolle bumper- timeframe is more like 40s thru50s IMO for this particular cue. I do and have owned similar cues and have some knowledge on this - I do not think that this is a 20s or 30s era...

Anyone Know this Model Brunswick Table and years of MFG. ?

Since moving back North a few weeks ago; I have been playing in a small room with four of these Brunswick tables. They are 9 foot, Simonis 860, 4 7/8 pockets, responsive rubber- similar to a Gold Crown. The tables play very nice, very true on banks, and very much like a Gold Crown. Great tables...

    $1200 Dufferin?!

I think about $350 or 400 or so is the top price that I would pay for a Duff conversion of an ebony silver leaf with a nice new shaft - simple red or green leafs - maybe $250 or so — $500 is the upper limit for the nicest ones —IMO.
