    Forum rage

I started a long reply about how forum rage is just a further degree of road rage because of the comparatively larger "distance" from others, but the more I wrote the more the analogy broke down because most internet flamers and antogonists are just scared little rats who would never be...

Price of Olhausen Reno in solid poplar

They must be putting a LOT of finish on it. Poplar is not really considered a "stain grade" wood, which means that in the world of quality furniture, it's only used if the finish will be painted. Stucturally it's perfectly fine. If they've put a finish on it that looks good, then I don't see...

    Buying a new Table

You won't regret it. That table is fine for home. Spend the money you saved on a first rate mechanic and set it up perfectly. Tom

Suggestion for house cues for home table?

Heck, I end up using my own house cues whenever anyone comes over. I'm not a competitive player, but I'm pretty much going to beat anyone that doesn't take the game seriously, which includes all of my friends and anyone who is likely to be at our house for a party. Anyway, I got so tired of...

Greyghosts aiming method.......come step into the darkness

That's absolutely right, and the only way this would work. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but aiming by shadows CANNOT work reliably. If you think this is working, then you're aiming subconciously and making balls. The shadows do NOT know where the pocket is. There is zero correlation. Period.

The funniest thing you've seen in a pool hall

This is an old post of mine from another thread, but I think it's worthy of repeating... My buddy and I are practicing at a local room when a young couple sets up on the table next to us. They shoot for a while, obviously not serious players at all, but they're having fun. After a few games the...

    Olhausen Belmont/Americana

I agree with the other poster that said Olhausen makes a good table. I've had my Remington for about five years and I'm very happy with it. I can almost guarantee you that they are trying to sell you a table with 7/8" slate. I feel strongly that full 1" slate is important to the way the table...

To slip or not to slip...that is the question

From the perspective of engineering/physics, you are essentially correct. It's almost always true that accuracy of motion comes from simplicity. The simplest series of motions that delivers the tip to the desired point is usually going to be the most accurate. Even though some have mastered it...

Custom Cue owners publicly made fun of

Not me, I have an inexpensive production cue and play lights out!! Errr, I mean I shoot like somebody turned the lights out:eek:

What's your take on people that won't gamble?

I love the game of pool. I like the challenge, the skill, watching my own progress, and the ART of the really stellar players. I'm not a nit. I'm not rich, but I have plenty of money, enough such that my life is no different on payday than any other day. I'm not very interested in gambling...

Does anyone make people pay off after every game or every set?

Some rich guys just forget what smaller amounts of money mean to regular folks. Not that you're going to lose the house over $40, but to him it's an absolutely trivial amount of money. To you it's an upgrade from Chili's to a nice steak dinner with your new bride! Seriously, that guy probably...

You either shoot straight or you don't...

Very well stated. I agree with almost everything you said. I do disagree slightly with the part that I quoted. I think the ghost ball visualization is the simplest way to get the correct contact point, and it's accurate. Lining up the cue on the object ball is an approximation which assumes the...

    Quitting while your ahead.

Yes I agree. Everyone should always give ME a chance to win my money back with an adjusted spot!!:D

    Why is it?

That's a good analogy, but obviously some don't see it that way. There are some people who can't help themselves in a relatively anonymous situation to just be jerks, or confrontational. I think it's very similar to the troll mentality, but not as pronounced. To get really into the...
