Don't you hate it when you think you have a trade made, and just about finalized, and then the other party goes radio silent?

Don't you hate it when you think you have a trade made, and just about finalized, and then the other party goes radio silent?

I am just so angry, and bummed out right now. This guy offered me a trade on a Titlist Ginacue, and then changed his mind for the smallest of flaws, that he happened to notice, in one of my pictures, so then he seemingly no longer wanted to do the deal.

People will offer you a trade, and then seemingly change their mind, with radio silence.

Instead of just writing you back, and letting you know that they no longer want the item, or are no longer interested, they just go radio silent.

Do not want to be Pushy, and annoy them too much, and be like, so do we have a deal or not? You offered me this trade earlier, but then you changed your mind, for whatever reason.

People just do not care about other people's time.

Why not read a seller's ad in full, carefully view their pictures, and view the video they posted, if they posted one.

Then make a serious offer based on that.

Don't make an offer, and then later on view the seller's pictures.

Then leave them hanging, right when you are trying to negotiate a better deal.

I don't know. Making deals is just so hard. Trading is not easy. And, everyone seems to be a flipper these days.

Agreed, that's incredibly rude. I'm sorry you were disrespected like that. The person should, at the very least, offer closure with an appropriate apology.

Posting a link to your for-sale thread here may help give you some feedback on what may have gone wrong. For example, did you describe the flaws and show pictures, or did the trading partner find the flaw on his own without a description? Your not having any feedback stats doesn't help. Maybe you should sell the cue that you have to trade first and get some feedback on that deal.

Just curious to the terms of the trade. Were you meeting in person to do the trade or was it through the mail or perhaps escrow?

It is a very old 3x6 Jack Justis cue case. There is what appears to be a very small dent near the bottom (not a tear, or anything like that, just a very small crater in the leather, due to nothing being hard right under that spot), near the feat, but it is not even noticeable unless looking down it from the very bottom. It was not anything that I was trying to hide, and it is not even a flaw in my opinion. There is no damage to the case, or any damage to the inner hard tubes. It is just a very small crater in the lather, because that area is soft. I do not know. The thing that annoys me is that I posted tons of pictures, showing everything, plus a 4 minute video, showing every detail about the condition of the case, and he viewed none of that, before making me offers. All offers seemingly were off the table, after he seen that very small flaw, that I do not even believe is a flaw. I mean, the case is probably 30 years old. It is not going to look new anymore. I just wish people would take the time to view my pics, and video, before making an offer, and be 100% sure on their offer. I am just bummed because I am hoping to trade the case for a really nice playing cue, and the cue he offered me was so cool. He made me other offers too, but it seems that he is just not interested in the case at all anymore. I hate dealing with Collectors, because they are extremely picky, about the smallest of details. Hence the 4 minute video I did, showing the condition, that I linked to in my ad.

Sounds like sales might not be your bag. Which is ok, it’s not for everyone.

Yeah, Sales is not my thing. I am not good at Negotiating, or valuating an item. I just try my best to research, and price the item based on that. And, then I take a lot of pics, and a good video, to show condition. Just annoying when people make an offer without being 100% sure they want the item, and without 1st viewing my pics, and watching my video. People should be serious about any offers they make, and not waste people's time.

Online trade offer, through facebook marketplace. Would have been mailing the trade. Have done many deals with the person in the past. Just very annoyed that he did not get a good look at all my pics, and view my video before making me any offers. He deals in cues, and has a big shop full of cues. He is also a big Viking cue dealer. He purchased several cues from me in the past. He changed his mind on the case, over the smallest of flaws, that he would have seen, had he viewed my pics originally. I just really bummed. I was excited about the Ginacue trade, he offered me.

I agree, I can’t stand “strokers” that’s the old school term used by telemarketers for people who promise to buy but never send the check.

When I was selling for a living, I was very good at it. The rush of closing a deal and buttoning it up was cool.

However those days are long gone for me. I can’t stand haggling anymore. I’d rather just pay a number and carry on with my day than the back & forth nonsense of trying to reach a deal.

I’m completely burned out on all that noise. I did it as it was a means to an end for me, better than hammering nails.

Oh, the most annoying thing that I hate the most about the start of a Haggling conversation, is when I am selling an item, like my 3x6 Jack Justis case for example, and people write me, not to make an offer, but to ask me right off the bat, what the least I would be willing to take for the item would be. I hate that so much. I would understand if I did not have a price posted, but in this and most cases, I do. They just skip an haggling step of making me an offer 1st, and then me replying back with an offer. And then maybe them asking me the least I would be willing to take. That has happened a lot. I mean, if you are seriously interested, but not willing to pay the sellers asking price, then why not make an offer? Instead, they just go right to the part where they ask me, "what is the least you would take", or "what is the best price you would give me". Nothing annoys me more then that, when they start the haggling with that line, right off the bat. Then I am always like "I feel that my asking price is very fair, but you are free to make me your best offer if you want". I usually never get a reply back after that, so they never seemed to be seriously interested in the 1st place.

People just do not know what constitutes good business. There are many irritating things that can happen in a transaction. You cannot count on a handshake agreement in todays world. Someone makes an offer, you accept and then bang... you do not hear from them. Now some people say, well you didn't lose anything... That is not true, you lose time. In many cases, and has happened to me, I believe we have a deal so I pull the item and it is no longer for sale, because I believe we have made a deal. So that 3-5-7 days that I am waiting for the other party, I could have possibly sold the item. That a good seller, that knows how to conduct business, this is how they finish a deal. This is what people that do not normally sell, don't understand.
You need to set up policies that benefit you. I have changed the way I do business because of this, and other factors.
- All shipments are FOB Origins
- If we have a deal, whether it is cash or trade, you have 24 hours to execute your end of it, or it is void
- Only a feeless payment, end of story
- Don't bid against yourself. If someone asks what the least you'll take is, say my price is listed, if you want to make an offer, then make an offer. The reason they don't, is once they do, then you have them on the hook. If they do not follow through, there is no rule against labeling that person as a time wasting, tire kicker and putting their name out there. If they have done it to you, I bet they have done it to other people and they are just as annoyed as you are.
Just because you are selling product, doesn't mean you should have to take abuses, or complications in conducting business. 20-25 years ago I do not remember this being as problematic as it seems to be now.

Yeah, I hate that more than anything. Right out of the gate (before making an offer or anything), "What is the best / or lowest price you would take", or some other variation of that question. I hate it so much, that I just want to Block them, lol. Why do I even waste my time replying? Anyone who asked that question right out of the gate is not seriously interested in the item. They really expect you to let them know right out of the gate the lowest price you are willing to take? Are they really that stupid? What infuriates me even more, if when I know that the price I posted is already at a very reasonable price. They are not playing the Haggling game right. They are skipping a few steps, lol. I don't know why, but that question, right out of the gate, infuriates me so much, lol. Make an offer, if seriously interested. I do not think that is too much to expect out of people. But, I get that question so often, right out of the gate, from so many people. It seems to be the Norm, lol, yet it is something that I have personally never done. Not right out of the gate anyways.

You buy/sell ANYTHING long enough you're gonna run into your share of tirekickers, strokers, pretenders, etc. If that bugs you you're in the wrong game. Deals like this happen so just log it into your 'ol Mark1 computer, aka your BRAIN, and move on. Your radar will be more finely tuned to this stuff the more it happens.

Although I agree in principle.. a bad seller can get pummeled online, bad buyers seem to skirt.

Maybe the playing field needs to be leveled.
