Florida Open 2025, August 5-10, Orlando, Caribe Royale

Seems we have an influx of very young players trying to break their way into the top echelons of pro pool.

Moritz Neuhausen, 21, already made the leap and Kledio Kaci, 19, has joined him.

AJ Manas, 18, got all the buzz a year ago, and still gets the buzz. Countryman Bernie Regalario, 20, has stepped up.

Felix Vogel, 17, is crashing the party this year.

Yannick Pongers, 20, has really caught my eye. Bit of a young hothead, but gobs of talent.

And now Albert Januarta, 17, fresh off of winning the WPC Junior title, is having a good go in the Florida Open. Won is first two matches, including a 9-5 win over Mieszko Fortunski, and now he is up 5-1 vs. Aleksa Pecelj.

Just to mention a few more young players playing today to get to elimination stage

Szymon Kural, 784, POL turns 21 this weekend
Riku Rompannen, 749, FIN is 17
Walter Laikre, 735, SWE just turned 17
Konnor McFayden, 666, USA, 17 (Florida)

Konnor McFayden - poor kid will be correcting people who correctly spell his misspelled name once a week for the rest of his life.

Interesting contrast between this massive (256 player?) field and the 128-player world championships which had pretty much no lead-in before the heavy hitters started to play and eliminate each other.

Is it against the rules to modofy your CUE unreasonably ?

Anyone watching table 4? Shuff is in bad pain but not giving up.
I watched and agree Brandon doesn't look physically comfortable. He was resting his bridge hand on the rail before getting down. Hope it is nothing too serious, he is still relatively young, 41 or 42 I think.

He was having a hard time at last year's International. Looked like a foot or leg problem.

Fred v Robbie will be good

I watched that match because both Shuff and Eberle used to play all the time in local tournaments in Rockville, MD. Back then Max was skinny, beardless, and had long black hair. Of course this was in the late 90's. Brandon looks older, but basically not that different than he was back then.

Neither of them were on their game tonight, missing one easy shot after another. In Brandon's case I hope it wasn't a medical issue.

Greetings from Orlando to all. The Florida Open has been magnificent to this point. Stage 1 had as many memorable matches as I can ever remember in Stage 1 of a Matchroom major.

So many are playing well that it is tough to know what to expect in Stage 2, but I know I am going to enjoy watching.
