2025 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

My game’s been a mess recently and I haven’t played 14.1 in ages, but managed a decent little 66 ball run the other day. I was really focusing on shortening my back swing in this session, which I think had gotten much too long recently.

I love your confidence when you shoot. I thought in the last rack you would use the 8 ball to open the rack while you had several balls for insurance.

Not sure what the rules are for this challenge. But I got a clean, reasonably planned out 53 today on a nine foot diamond. Felt good enough. I was pleased with the effort. My sparring pal Don (shown here) saw it. Also, cubes go great with salad.

PS, just noticed your list includes Fargo rating for reference. Mine is 618 as of today. Not that any of this matters. Also finally read the rules. Note that this run started from a break shot in practice for those who wish to know.

PSS, all I play these days is bar box 8 ball. My divorce that went final this year has resulted in my beloved 9 foot diamond being in storage for the last year and a half. Here's to hoping that 2026 will be the year I can afford a place to set it back up. Just sharing this, well, just cuz

Nice run! I gotta get me some of that grey cube. I bet it is super fantastic happy hour.

30 today tied my highest
New cue and improvements showing I’ll bust past it in no time

Where you at?

weve been hitting the sameish numbers for a couple years now so im always paying attention to your posts. I feel completely stuck yet again despite brief moments of clarity. do you feel like you’re learning “how” to play yet missing for “no reason” or does it seem like most of your runs end from trying to do too much?

maybe we can learn from each others mistakes and get to 42 already

Houston

The only table I ever played on that game was an 8ft gandy

Might be a few days a month
Plays completely different than the diamond bar tables and 9ft gold crowns I play mostly on

I come to believe it’s not worth the time to get good on that table with how it plays
The pockets while large are brutal and hang up lots

Might just try my attempts from now on
On a goldcrown and see if I can get further

Since I play many bar tables and 9ft tournaments and lots of 1pkt

@iusedtoberich

time for the 2026 thread.

another year goes by without a new high run for me. i do feel like i understand the game a little better, but i was running more 20+s when i played “wrong”

i think with most things they get worse before they get better.

i dont mind hard work but after 3 years i am actually getting worse, and i’m forced to ask myself if maybe theres something else i should be putting my time in to.

i play this game for the process and not the results but at what point do i just kind of realize that this game is not for me?

maybe i need to use straight pool as more of a tune up tool or something. i think the years of beatdowns and defeats are just finally catching up to me where being terrible at the game is starting to outweigh the joy of learning from it.

thoughts?
