Tips that don’t require sanding to install

I install tips. For most tips, I sand them flat before installing.
The Kamui Clear, Rhino Time Crystal and Caiden Fighter have flat glueing surfaces that install well without any sanding.
Are there other brands out there that don’t require sanding to be flat?

Isn’t the purpose of sanding to create a more porous surface for the glue?

Not to be argumentative but I even sand the Kamui Clear. They are not flat. The surface is concave. I know they say you don't have to but you really should. It's the one tip out of 50 or so that popped off on me.

If you want to avoid problems, it's best to sand them all, a light sanding will show if they are flat or not.

I am an amateur at installing tips and was unaware that you didn't have to sand. I wouldn't mind trying to install tips without sanding. I presume you only wipe the tip with alcohol, dry, and superglue. Correct?

How did poster LDMitchell find this out? Did the manufacturer state this? Did you check tips and found this to be true?

The Kamui Clear and the Rhino Time Crystal tips have a plastic bottom but not the Caiden Fighter. If you have had good luck installing Kamui Clear without sanding? That is better than me who did sand and it came off.

I feel that CA bonds best with clean flat surfaces. When installing leather tips, like Ultraskins, I sand flat with 220, then apply a layer of CA. I let the glue soak in for a moment, spray it with accelerant then sand flat again before installing.
It all takes time. And when sanding care must be taken to make it really flat.
When using epoxy, break tips, then I do want a rough surface.

Whatever works for you works. Why would you not want to sand? (reference to no sand tips)
Me.. I have small piece of 80 grit and sand the glue side on a flat metal surface. The ferrule gets faced and swiped with an alcohol pad. I mask the ferrule with blue tape. Apply CA and press/hold on lathe. Have done enough to make the process go quickly. I will never vary. Fresh CA and cleanliness works everytime so far.
I alway work alone... if I'm tipping for a friend they have to stay in the corner to avoid being distracted😂.

I wonder how many cue makers and repair people do not sand. For the sake of conversation go to “ask the cue maker” and ask. If you sanded and lost the tip …it’s bad glue, not clean, or you rushed… glue not cured. Does any manufacturer specify Do Not Sand?
As for being an amateur you do not have to a pro to perform a quality application.

Kamui Clear tips are not always flat. Despite what they claim.

I like 320 grit on a flat surface. Lightly drag the tip in one direction until you can see uniform scratches across the entire tip.
Clean it with alcohol and do not touch it with your fingers.

I always lightly sand tips before installing.. whether for myself or others. I can only remember one LePro tip popping off the past year while breaking with it. After gluing it back on it has been fine.

This is what I have always done. I don't really care if one or two companies don't require or recommend sanding, it only takes a couple seconds so what does it hurt?
BSTS, sanding is just good insurance it is flat. Prepping with CA definitely helps with leather tips and will always do this. Non-leather tips I just scuff to be sure the tip is not concave or convex.

I have just recently started using epoxy for break tips. Never had a problem with any of the break tips using Gorilla Glue Gel CA. Even the ones people say are tough, like Bulletproof, White Diamond, Outsville etc. but recently I had a guy with a battering ram break knock of the new tip 3 times within just a few breaks. This last time I use epoxy and so far, it's been on a week. Used JB Weld epoxy not sure if there is a better one to use.
